Introduction: Ependymomas are tumours derived from ependymal cells, found lining the cerebral ventricles and central canal of spinal cord. Intracranial ependymomas account for 2 6% of all neoplasms of the central nervous system and at least half present in the first two decades of life.
Development: We review the epidemiological, clinical, neuropathological details, neuroradiological aspects and treatment of intracranial ependymomas.
A male newborn with multiple congenital abnormalities was studied. Clinically, he showed prominent forehead, facial dysmorphism, ear malformations, congenital heart defect and limb anomalies. The cytogenetic studies demonstrated a karyotype 46,XY, der(18) t(1;18)(q32;p11.

Most cases present in children less than 2 years of age. These tumors have been classified according to histopathological criteria into papilloma and carcinoma.

Total degradation of phenol was obtained at alkaline pH when NaCl was present using Bi-doped and pure lead dioxide electrodes. A filter press cell of 63 cm2 geometric area was used for this purpose.

Objective: To study the type of treatment, conservative or operative, and the main prognostic factors.
Background: Day care units have become an usual way of medical care for AIDS patients. However, their influence on the incidence of hospital admissions has not been evaluated.
Methods: Observational and longitudinal study of a cohort of 308 patients with aids diagnosed between 1990 and 1994 and followed-up to June 1996.
Tuberculous radiculomyelitis (TBRM) is a complication of tuberculous meningitis (TBM), which has been reported rarely in the modern medical literature. We describe a case of TBRM that developed in an human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected patient, despite prompt antituberculous treatment. To our knowledge, this is the second case of TBRM reported in an HIV-infected patient.

Design: Observational cohort.
Setting: University-based public hospital AIDS clinic.
Introduction: In recent decades, important scientific advances have been made, leading to modification of the diagnosis and the treatment of intracranial collections of pus (ICP).
Objectives: To analyze the changes in various clinicopathological aspects of ICP during the twenty years studied.
Patients And Methods: We present a retrospective analysis of 100 cases of ICP diagnosed between 1979 and 1998 in the Hospital General de Galicia.
Introduction: An epidural spinal abscess is a rare clinical condition which may cause rapid, irreversible neurological deterioration. Usually, the patient presents with back pain in the affected spinal segment, but the condition is rarely considered in the differential diagnosis.
Clinical Case: A 57 year old man with no significant clinical history initially consulted complaining of cervicalgia.

Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP) is one of the leading complications among HIV-infected patients. Recent advances in PCP prophylaxis, diagnosis and treatment have caused a decrease in PCP-related morbidity and mortality. Despite these advances, PCP continues to be frequent in patients not known to be HIV-infected and in those patients with poor adherence to prophylactic regimens or severe immunosuppression.

Experimental observations suggest that leucocyte migration and function could be a suitable model in order to understand tumour cell dissemination. In the present report we show and quantify the production of free radicals by human malignant melanoma cells (St-ml12) by means of a spectrophotometrical method, using an enzyme immunoassay reader.

It is endemic to India and Sri Lanki, but occasionally occurs in other regions of the world. We report a case in Spain.

We present a patient with symptoms of cauda equina compression where MRI of the spine showed extradural lesions at S1 and L3 levels. This patient had normal bone marrow and peripheral blood for a further 6 weeks from onset of symptoms.

Systematic studies on phenol derivatives facilitates an explanation of the enhancement or inhibition of the luminol-H2O2-horseradish peroxidase system chemiluminescence. Factors that govern the enhancement are the one-electron reduction potentials of the phenoxy radicals (PhO./PhOH) vs.

Extramedullary plasmacytoma involving the parotid gland is an extremely rare condition. This report describes the case of a primary extramedullary plasmacytoma arising in the right parotid gland of a 63-year-old man.
