After experiencing a decline in RSV circulation during the years of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, a late outbreak was observed in the spring of 2022 and an early onset of the outbreak in 2023, with a significant increase in the number of serious cases. Design: Cohort study including patients with PaO/FiO <150mmHg requiring prone position over 18 months. We classified patients according to PaO/FiO changes from basal to 24h after the first prone cycle as: 1) no increase 2) increase <25%, 3) 25%-50% increase 4) increase >50%.
Background: Policymakers urgently need evidence to adequately balance the costs and benefits of mass vaccination against COVID-19 across all age groups, including children and adolescents. In this study, we aim to assess the effectiveness of CoronaVac's primary series among children and adolescents in Chile.
Methods: We used a large prospective national cohort of about two million children and adolescents 6-16 years to estimate the effectiveness of an inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine (CoronaVac) in preventing laboratory-confirmed symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection (COVID-19), hospitalisation, and admission to an intensive care unit (ICU) associated with COVID-19.

This study examined the effects of veteran-specific cooperative police interventions, including a Veterans Response Team (VRT) and broad collaboration between local police departments and a Veterans Affairs (VA) medical center police department (local-VA police [LVP]), on veterans' health care utilization. Data were analyzed on 241 veterans (51 received VRT and 190 received LVP intervention) in Wilmington, Delaware. View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjectives: To determine the impact of a booster dose on the humoral response in individuals inoculated with a complete schedule of any SARS-CoV-2 vaccine, we evaluated the neutralizing antibody (NAb) titres of homologous or heterologous booster doses over a 90-days period in CoronaVac vaccinees from 3 centres in Santiago, Chile.
Methods: Individuals previously inoculated with 2 doses of CoronaVac (N = 523) were recruited in the context of the REFUERZO clinical trial (NCT04992182) and received either placebo (N = 129), or a booster dose of CoronaVac (N = 134), BNT162b2 (N = 133), or ChAdOx1 (N = 127). Pseudovirus neutralizing antibody titres (pVNT) were determined at baseline (day 0) as well as at days 14, 30, 60, and 90 after booster dose administration.
The limited availability of red cells with extremely rare blood group phenotypes is one of the global challenges in transfusion medicine that has prompted the search for alternative self-renewable pluripotent cell sources for the in vitro generation of red cells with rare blood group types. One such phenotype is the Rh , which lacks all the Rh antigens on the red cell membrane and represents one of the rarest blood types in the world with only a few active blood donors available worldwide. Rh red cells are critical for the transfusion of immunized patients carrying the same phenotype, besides its utility in the diagnosis of Rh alloimmunization when a high-prevalence Rh specificity is suspected in a patient or a pregnant woman.

Methods: Using individual-level data, we evaluated a prospective, observational, national-level cohort of individuals (aged ≥16 years) affiliated with the Fondo Nacional de Salud insurance programme in Chile, to assess the effectiveness of CoronaVac (Sinovac Biotech), AZD1222 (Oxford-AstraZeneca), or BNT162b2 (Pfizer-BioNTech) vaccine boosters in individuals who had completed a primary immunisation schedule with CoronaVac, compared with unvaccinated individuals.

In March 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended that vaccination not be interrupted as long as countries could safely maintain this service in the context of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. WHO also warned about the risk of interruption of programmatic vaccination that generates an increase in the number of people susceptible to infections that are sought to be prevented with the use of vaccines and, therefore, an increase in the probability of disease outbreak. Along with increased morbidity and mortality in risk groups, vaccine-preventable disease outbreaks would put additional demand on the health system already burdened by COVID-19.

A countrywide mass vaccination campaign with the use of an inactivated severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccine (CoronaVac) was conducted in Chile starting on February 2, 2021.
Methods: We used a prospective national cohort, including participants 16 years of age or older who were affiliated with the public national health care system, to assess the effectiveness of the inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine with regard to preventing Covid-19 and related hospitalization, admission to the intensive care unit (ICU), and death.

Objectives: This study set out to examine outcomes from pediatric supraventricular tachycardia ablations over a 20-year period. This study sought to examine success rates and repeat ablations over time and to evaluate whether modalities such as 3-dimensional (3D) mapping, contact force, and cryotherapy have improved outcomes.
Background: Ablation of supraventricular tachycardia in pediatric patients is commonly performed in most congenital heart centers with excellent long-term results.
COVID-19 is a global public health issue due to its epidemic nature that, to date, lacks pharmacological treatment. However, some COVID-19 vaccines have been authorized for emergency use, although the duration of their protection, their ability to interrupt viral transmission, and their efficacy against emerging variants of SARS-CoV-2 are being studied. Chile's SARS-CoV-2 vaccination campaign required design and planning, like any other campaign.
