The development of an environmentally benign method for the synthesis of nanoparticles has been facilitated by green chemistry. "Green synthesis" uses a range of biological elements like microbes, plants, and other biodegradable materials to produce NPs. Active biomolecules that are secreted by natural strains and present in the plant extracts serve as both reducing and capping/stabilizing agents.

Objectives: Hydrocortisone stress dosing guidelines for children with adrenal insufficiency (AI) recommend a wide range of acceptable stress doses. This has led to variability in dosing recommendations resulting in confusion among endocrine, non-endocrine providers and patient families. This quality improvement project sought to standardize documentation and hydrocortisone stress dosing within our pediatric endocrine division to optimize communication regarding AI management.

Background And Objectives: Incidence of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is increasing, and these patients often have poor glycemic control. Electronic dashboards summating patient data have been shown to improve patient outcomes in other conditions. In addition, educating patients on T1DM has shown to improve glycated hemoglobin (A1C) levels.

Summary: Single-minded homolog 1 (SIM1) is a transcription factor that plays a role in the development of both the hypothalamus and pituitary. SIM1 gene mutations are known to cause obesity in humans, and chromosomal deletions encompassing SIM1 and other genes necessary for pituitary development can cause a Prader-Willi-like syndrome with obesity and hypopituitarism. There have been no reported cases of hypopituitarism linked to a single SIM1 mutation.

Objectives Hypocalcemia following total thyroidectomy (TT) is relatively common. It may result in significant morbidity, prolonged hospital stay, and increased costs. Treatment with intravenous (IV) calcium gluconate may also carry significant risks.

Background And Objective: Epicardial adipose thickness (EAT) is increased in adults with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and is thought to contribute to cardiovascular disease (CVD) in this population. Given that CVD risk factors emerge early in life, the purpose of this study was to identify whether EAT is increased in pediatric patients with T1D compared with non-diabetic controls.

Methods: Anthropometric data, blood pressure (BP), and EAT were evaluated in 20 youth with T1D and 20 age, sex, and body mass index (BMI) matched healthy controls between the ages of 5 and 18 years.

Excess of copper ion (>2 mg/L) in water is toxic to human beings and the ecosystem. Various water treatment technologies for copper remediation have been investigated in the past. Along with industrial effluents, Bordeaux mixture is also a noteworthy copper contamination source in the agricultural ecosystem.

There is limited research examining the sexual health and well-being of older women living with HIV (OWLH). Most studies focus on sexual dysfunction, leaving aside the richer context of sexuality and sexual health, including the effect of age-related psychosocial and interpersonal changes on sexual health behaviors. Guided by the integrative biopsychosocial model and the sexual health model, this study explored the importance of sex and sexuality among OWLH to identify their sexual health and HIV prevention needs for program planning.

Rosacea fulminans (RF) is a rare facial dermatosis characterized by the sudden onset of severe facial inflammation consisting of numerous pustules, cystic swellings and coalescing sinuses. The standard treatment is the retinoid drug isotretinoin in combination with systemic corticosteroids or with high-dose oral tetracycline antibiotics. We report three recent cases of RF in pregnancy with differing obstetric outcomes: an intrauterine death, a termination of pregnancy, and a normal vaginal delivery.

A solution to the phase-retrieval problem when the unknown phase is small is presented. The solution specifies the even and odd parts of the unknown phase in two separate equations. The odd part requires a single intensity measurement, and the even part requires two measurements.

We study the production of W bosons at large transverse momentum in pp collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. We calculate the complete next-to-leading order (NLO) corrections to the differential cross section. We find that the NLO corrections provide a large increase to the cross section but, surprisingly, do not reduce the scale dependence relative to leading order (LO).

4-Amino-6-arylmethyl/tert-butyl-3-mercapto-1,2,4-triazin-5(4H)-ones (1) were condensed with arylfuroic acids (2) to yield 7-(5-aryl-2-furyl)-3-arylmethyl/tert-butyl-4H-1,3,4-thiadiazolo[2,3-c]-1,2,4-triazin-4-ones (3). The newly synthesized compounds exhibited antibacterial activity comparable to that of nitrofurazone. In addition, two compounds displayed in vitro antitumor activity with moderate growth inhibition against a panel of 60 tumor cell lines.

4-Amino-3-mercapto-1,2,4-triazin-5(4H)-ones (1) were condensed with dicarboxylic acids 2 to yield bis-(4-oxo-4H-1,3,4-thiadiazolo[2,3-c]-1,2,4-triazin-7-yl)alkanes (3b-d,f-h,j-l,n-p) and bis-thiadiazolotriazines (3a,e,i,m). All the newly synthesised compounds were characterised by analytical, IR, NMR and mass spectral studies. Some of the newly synthesised compounds were screened for their antibacterial and antifungal properties.

The acylhydrazones 3, obtained by the treatment of succinic acid dihydrazide 2 with furfural, nitrofurfuraldehydediacetate and substituted arylfurfurals, on oxidative cyclization with bromine in acetic acid yielded 1,2-bis(1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)ethanes 4 which are further converted into 1,2-bis(4-amino-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)ethanes 5 with hydrazine hydrate. The newly synthesised compounds are characterised by analytical, IR, NMR and mass spectral data. Most of the newly synthesised compounds have been found to be active against both Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria at less than 6 microg/mL concentration.

A series of bis-[4-amino-5-mercapto-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl] alkanes have been synthesized and were converted into bis-[1,2,4-triazolo[3,4-b]-1,3,4-thiadiazol-4-yl] alkanes. The newly synthesized compounds were characterized by analytical IR, NMR and mass spectral studies. Some of the newly synthesized compounds were screened for their antibacterial properties and exhibited activity with MIC in the range 3-12.

The preparation of bis-(4-amino-5-mercapto-1,2,4-triazol-3yl)alkanes is described. These bis-(amino-mercapto-triazolyl) alkanes are characterized by analytical and spectral data. They are also characterized by the preparation of the Schiff bases by condensing them with various benzaldehydes and nitro furfural diacetate in dimethyl formamide-ethanol medium in the presence of concentrated sulphuric acid.

To compensate for scintillation we allow the real, nonnegative field in an aperture to propagate a distance z toward a detector, where the field will be complex. There, we modify its phase to emulate that of a clear aperture. The modified field that is propagated to the detector is nearly diffraction limited.
