Background & Objectives: Both innovator and generic imatinib are approved for the treatment of Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia-Chronic phase (CML-CP). Currently, there are no studies on the feasibility of treatment-free remission (TFR) with generic imatinib. This study attempted to determine the feasibility and efficacy of TFR in patients on generic Imatinib.

Epidemiological study of gastrointestinal helminths among dogs from Northeastern Nigeria: a potential public health concern.

Understanding the epidemiology of canine parasitic infections, gastrointestinal helminthic infections in particular, is crucial for designing an efficient control programs targeted at minimizing the risks of zoonotic transmission. A total of 470 dogs attending veterinary clinics in Northeastern Nigeria were screened for gastrointestinal helminths using standard parasitological techniques. Epidemiological risk factors associated with the canine parasitic infections were assessed using multivariable logistic regression analysis.

Randomized controlled trial of twice-daily versus alternate-day oral iron therapy in the treatment of iron-deficiency anemia.

Recent studies in iron-depleted women have challenged the current approach of treating iron-deficiency anemia (IDA) with oral iron in divided daily doses. Alternate day dosing leads to more fractional absorption of iron. In this randomized controlled trial, we looked at the efficacy and safety of alternate-day (AD) versus twice-daily (BD) oral iron in all severity of IDA.

STRONG-D: Strength training regimen for normal weight diabetics: Rationale and design.

Background: Currently, there is a lack of data on effective lifestyle recommendations for normal-weight diabetics (NWD), who can represent up to 1 in 5 individuals with Type II Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). NWD is especially prevalent in Asian populations and the elderly. Specific exercise treatment recommendations are needed for patients with normal-weight diabetes (NWD), as those in this category face higher mortality rates than overweight and obese diabetics.

Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma: A Rare Cause of Lung Consolidation.

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the commonest sub-type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. However, lung consolidation is a rare presentation of DLBCL. Moreover, in view of poor general condition, it poses clinical dilemma of when to start chemotherapy and whether chemotherapy should be given at full dose or truncated doses till improvement in general condition.

Evaluating the clinical implementation of structured exercise: A randomized controlled trial among non-insulin dependent type II diabetics.

Background: The American Diabetes Association (ADA) currently recommends 150 min of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise per week and resistance exercise at least twice per week in individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) to improve overall health [1]. However, approximately 38% of patients with T2DM do not exercise at recommended levels and 31% do not exercise at all [2]. The efficacy of structured exercise interventions has been proven effective in reducing glycosylated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels in patients, but practical approaches are needed to translate these findings into the clinical setting [3-7].

Cutaneous herald: leukaemia cutis as presenting manifestation of relapse in acute promyelocytic leukaemia.

Leukaemia cutis or cutaneous infiltration of neoplastic myeloid or lymphoid cells is usually seen in the acute myelomonocytic and acute monocytic variants of acute myeloid leukaemia. Here, we report a case of acute promyelocytic leukaemia who achieved remission, presenting with skin lesions, the biopsy of which revealed leukaemia cutis, heralding the relapse of the disease. After establishing the diagnosis with bone marrow analysis, the patient was started on daunorubicin chemotherapy along with arsenic trioxide and all-trans retinoic acid.

Populations at the margin of geographic ranges of distribution have been considered more vulnerable than central ones, but recent reviews have caste doubt on this generalization. We examined the reproductive and demographic performance of a rare Euroasiatic orchid (Cypripedium calceolus) at its southwesterly range limit and compared our findings with those of previous studies of nine central populations at the center of the orchid's range. Successful response to intravenous immunoglobulin as rescue therapy in a patient with Hashimoto's encephalopathy.

The authors describe the case of a 61-year-old woman who was admitted to our intensive care unit (ICU) due to impaired consciousness associated with generalised seizures. Her cerebrospinal fluid, electrolytes, acid-base analysis, and common laboratory and toxicology tests were normal. An MRI ruled out the presence of stroke or haemorrhage but showed severe leukoencephalopathy.

Management of patients with severe respiratory failure is mainly supportive, and protective mechanical ventilation is the pivotal treatment. When conventional therapy is insufficient to improve oxygenation without deleterious effects, other strategies should be considered. We report a 53 year-old male who presented a severe respiratory failure refractory to conventional management after pneumonectomy.
