Although both Hodgkin lymphoma and cyst hydatic disease in children have been seen with an increased frequency, there is no previously reported case of Hodgkin lymphoma associated with cyst hydatic disease from Turkey. The authors report such a case of Hodgkin lymphoma. Intrahepatic cystic masses were diagnosed during ultrasound examination for clinical staging on admission.

Background And Aim Of The Study: Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) gene insertion/deletion (I/D) polymorphism, angiotensinogen (AGT) gene polymorphism and angiotensin II type 1 receptor (AT1R) polymorphism in relation to rheumatic mitral valve disease were examined in a case-control study to investigate possible relationships between these gene polymorphisms and rheumatic mitral valve disease in patients undergoing mitral valve replacement (MVR).

Methods: A total of 50 patients with rheumatic mitral valve disease and undergoing MVR was compared with 50 normal, and age- and sex-matched control subjects. ACE I/D, AGT gene M235T and AT1R-adenine/cytosine 1166 (A1166C) genotype polymorphisms were identified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) -based restriction analysis.

We have prepared a novel metal-chelate adsorbent utilizing N-methacryloyl-L-histidine methyl ester (MAH) as a metal-chelating ligand. MAH was synthesized by using methacryloyl chloride and l-histidine methyl ester dihydrochloride. Spherical beads with an average diameter of 75-125 microm were produced by suspension polymerization of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) and MAH carried out in an aqueous dispersion medium.

Intestinal rotation anomalies in childhood: review of 22 years' experience.

Purpose: We review our experience of treating intestinal rotation anomalies in infants and children in the 22-year period between 1978 and 2000.

Methods: The type of operation performed, postoperative complications, and mortality were compared in three age groups. Group 1 consisted of neonates <1 month old, Group 2 consisted of infants aged <1 year old, and Group 3 consisted of children aged >1 year old.

Objectives: Data regarding the management of the portal hypertensive haemorrhage in the paediatric patients have yielded conflicting results. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of beta-blocker (propranolol) alone, sclerotherapy alone and beta-blocker + sclerotherapy combination in the management of portal hypertension in the paediatric population.

Methods: Medical information was retrieved from the records of 62 children with portal hypertension who were under treatment during at least two years of follow-up period.

Management of post-traumatic arterial priapism in children: presentation of a case and review of the literature.

In this article, a 9-year-old boy with arterial priapism is presented. The patient was managed with the conservative measures including imipramine hydrochloride and a favorable outcome was achieved after 2 months of follow-up. Mathieu urethroplasty as a salvage procedure: 20-year experience.

The authors report a 5-year-old boy with Willms tumor whose condition was complicated with VOD while receiving chemotherapy.

Efficacy of donepezil on behavioral symptoms in patients with moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease.

Objective: This subanalysis of a large, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial examined the prevalence of behavioral symptoms in moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease (AD), and the effect of treatment with donepezil.

Methods: Two hundred ninety patients with moderate to severe AD (standardized Mini-Mental State Examination scores 5-17) were randomized to receive 24 weeks of once-daily doses of donepezil 5 mg/day for 28 days, and 10 mg/day thereafter per the clinician's judgment (n = 144), or placebo (n = 146). The outcome measure of interest was the 12-item Neuropsychiatric Inventory (NPI).

Onlay island flap urethroplasty: a comparative analysis of primary versus reoperative cases.

Objectives: To compare the outcome of the onlay technique in cases with an untouched urethral plate (group 1) and patients who had undergone previous hypospadias repairs (group 2).

Methods: The records of the 50 patients undergoing onlay island flap urethroplasty in the past 10 years were reviewed. The frequency of fistula formation in both groups was compared using the appropriate statistical methods.

The therapeutic efficacy of radiolabeled antibody fragments can be limited by nephrotoxicity, particularly when the kidney is the major route of extraction from the circulation. Conventional dose estimates in kidney assume uniform dose deposition, but we have shown increased antibody localization in the cortex after glomerular filtration. The purpose of this study was to measure the radioactivity in cortex relative to medulla for a range of antibodies and to assess the validity of the assumption of uniformity of dose deposition in the whole kidney and in the cortex for these antibodies with a range of radionuclides.

Successful treatment with interferon alfa in infiltrating angiolipoma: a case presenting with Kasabach-Merritt syndrome.

We report a case of infiltrating angiolipoma who presented with a large mass on the shoulder and the signs of Kasabach-Merritt syndrome. She improved dramatically within one month and the mass completely disappeared after six months of interferon treatment.

Synergy between vascular targeting agents and antibody-directed therapy.

Purpose: Tumor heterogeneity necessitates the use of combined therapies. We have shown that combining antibody-directed therapy with antivascular agents converts a subcurative to a curative treatment. The purpose of this study was to investigate, by radioluminographic and microscopic techniques, the regional effects of the two complementary therapies.

Is it possible to create a slit-like meatus without incising the urethral plate?

A series of hypospadias repairs using the Mathieu and V-incision-sutured (MAVIS) technique, aiming to achieve a normal-looking,vertical, slit-like meatus in 32 patients was reviewed. A Mathieu procedure was performed in 26 patients as a primary repair and in 3 as a rescue operation. In another 3 patients who had severe proximal hypospadias with failed repair, techniques other than Mathieu's were used.
