Purpose: The aim of the study was to analyze the modification of total and regional body composition in early breast cancer patients treated with aromatase inhibitors (AIs).

Methods: This is a prospective, single-center, observational, longitudinal study. Four-hundred and twenty-eight patients treated with adjuvant aromatase inhibitors were enrolled at the Medical Oncology and Breast Unit of Spedali Civili Hospital in Brescia from September 2014 to June 2022.

Enhanced Raman Investigation of Cell Membrane and Intracellular Compounds by 3D Plasmonic Nanoelectrode Arrays.

3D nanostructures are widely exploited in cell cultures for many purposes such as controlled drug delivery, transfection, intracellular sampling, and electrical recording. However, little is known about the interaction of the cells with these substrates, and even less about the effects of electroporation on the cellular membrane and the nuclear envelope. This work exploits 3D plasmonic nanoelectrodes to study, by surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), the cell membrane dynamics on the nanostructured substrate before, during, and after electroporation.

Air travel and incidence of pneumothorax in lymphangioleiomyomatosis.

Background: Pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) is a rare disease of women characterized by multiple lung cysts leading to respiratory insufficiency and frequent pneumothorax (PT). Air travel (AT) could increase the risk of PT in LAM through rupture of subpleural cysts induced by atmospheric pressure changes in aircraft cabin. To determine whether AT increases the risk of PT in LAM, we performed a retrospective survey of members of European LAM patient associations.

Cell Membrane Disruption by Vertical Micro-/Nanopillars: Role of Membrane Bending and Traction Forces.

Gaining access to the cell interior is fundamental for many applications, such as electrical recording and drug and biomolecular delivery. A very promising technique consists of culturing cells on micro-/nanopillars. The tight adhesion and high local deformation of cells in contact with nanostructures can promote the permeabilization of lipids at the plasma membrane, providing access to the internal compartment.

Uncontrolled activation of Rho signaling by RhoGEFs, in particular AKAP13 (Lbc) and its close homologs, is implicated in a number of human tumors with poor prognosis and resistance to therapy. Background: This study investigated the cost-effectiveness of ultrasonographic-guided interscalene brachial plexus blockade (ISB) in comparison with general anaesthesia (GA) for arthroscopic shoulder surgery.

Methods: Forty patients undergoing arthroscopic shoulder surgery received either an ultrasonographic-guided ISB or GA. ISB was performed outside the operation room (OR) and patients were transferred in the OR at the earliest 20 min after block performance.

Remifentanil for tracheal tube tolerance: a case control study.

Distribution of diaphragmatic lymphatic lacunae.

The morphology of the submesothelial lymphatic lacunae on the pleural and peritoneal surface over the tendinous and muscular portion of the diaphragm was studied in 10 anesthetized rabbits. The lymphatic network was evidenced by injecting 1 ml of colloidal carbon solution in the pleural (n = 5) or the peritoneal (n = 5) space.
