An alternative approach to the detection of latent fingermarks using [Eu(BDC)3(HO)], a luminescent non-toxic MOF powder.

Fingermarks are important forensic evidence for identifying people. In this work, luminescent MOF [Eu(BDC)(HO)] (herein referred as EuBDC) was tested as a potential latent fingermark (LF) luminescent developer powder and its acute toxicity evaluated following OECD protocol 423. The results showed that the powder can develop groomed LF on materials such as leather, plastic, metal, glass, cardboard, and aluminum.

Aim: Calcium silicate-based cements have been widely used in dentistry mainly due to their physicochemical and biological properties. Commercially available materials use radiopacifiers containing metals (bismuth, tantalum, tungsten and/or zirconium). Spatiotemporal analysis of mosquito-borne infections and mosquito vectors in mainland Portugal.

Background: The incidence of mosquito-borne infections has increased worldwide. Mainland Portugal's characteristics might favour the (re)emergence of mosquito-borne diseases. Seroconversion and seroreversion rates of anti-Strongyloides IgG in rural areas of the Amazon: a population-based panel study.

Using a panel study design, we aimed to estimate the seroconversion and seroreversion rates of anti-Strongyloides IgG antibodies from surveys carried out 11 months apart in a rural community in the Amazon Basin in Brazil. HBM4EU chromates study: the Portuguese integrated and harmonized study on exposure to hexavalent chromium and related early effects.

In the scope of the European Union (EU) human biomonitoring initiative, a multicentric study on different occupational settings from several European countries was performed, to provide information on occupational exposure to hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)], a known lung carcinogen. Biomonitoring approaches were used to obtain exposure data to support the implementation of new risk management measures and policy actions at the national and European levels. This work describes the Portuguese contribution to the study, which aimed to assess workers' exposure to Cr, by using exposure biomarkers (urinary chromium [U-Cr]), and industrial hygiene samples (air and hand wipes) and to link exposure to potential long-term health effects by using effect biomarkers.

Aggressiveness of Care at the End of Life of Children Dying with Cancer in Public Hospitals-A Nationwide Retrospective Cohort Study.

Little is known about the aggressiveness of cancer care at the end of life (ACCEoL) for children with cancer in countries where palliative care (PC) is scarce. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency and time trends of ACCEoL in the pediatric population in a Western European country. We conducted a retrospective cohort study analyzing children between 0 and 17 years who died of cancer in public hospitals in Portugal, from January 2010 to December 2015.

Association between Primary Care Assessment Tool (PCAT) and Assessment of Chronic Illness Care (ACIC): a Brazilian cross-sectional study.

Aim: To analyze the association between Primary Health Care (PHC) performance and institutional ability to provide care for individuals with noncommunicable diseases (NCDs).

Methods: Cross-sectional study conducted with primary care nurses and physicians in Brazil. The performance of PHC was assessed by using the Primary Care Assessment Tool (PCAT), whereas institutional ability for the care of people with NCDs was assessed through the Assessment of Chronic Illness Care (ACIC).

RGS10 Attenuates Systemic Immune Dysregulation Induced by Chronic Inflammatory Stress.

Regulator of G-protein signaling 10 (RGS10), a key homeostatic regulator of immune cells, has been implicated in multiple diseases associated with aging and chronic inflammation including Parkinson's Disease (PD). Unilateral molar Incisor hypomineralization influences the chewing side? an observational study in children.

Objective: The aim of this observational study was to compare the chewing patterns of children with unilateral Molar Incisor Hypomineralization (MIH) to those of children without MIH and to assess how the MIH severity influences the risk of chewing deviation. The hypothesis was that children with unilateral MIH would prefer to chew on the side opposite the defect.

Methods: A total of 121 children were included in this investigation and evaluated for their preferred chewing side (PCS).

Quantifying past forest cover and biomass changes in the Ecuadorian Amazon.

Here, we developed and applied models to quantitatively reconstruct forest cover and biomass changes at three lakes in northwestern Amazonia over the past > 1500 yr. We used remotely sensed data and a modern dataset of 50 Amazonian lakes to develop generalized linear models that predict aboveground biomass, using phytolith morphotypes and forest cover as predictor variables. Also, we applied a published beta regression model to predict forest cover within 200 m of each lake, using Poaceae phytoliths.

Assessment of the microbial contamination in "Do It Yourself" (DIY) stores - a holistic approach to protect workers' and consumers' health.

Introduction: In "Do-It-Yourself" (DIY) stores, workers from the wood department are considered woodworkers. Given the health risks associated with woodworking, particularly from fungi and their metabolites, this study aims to assess microbial contamination and health risks for both workers and customers.

Methods: The study was developed in 13 DIY stores in Lisbon Metropolitan Area, Portugal.

Fibre post removal using ultrasonic tips: A comparative in vitro study using different protocols.

This study evaluated the glass fibre post (GFP) removal using three different protocols with ultrasonic tips. Thirty-six extracted single-rooted teeth were endodontically treated and cemented with a 10-mm GFP. Three protocols were used for GFP removal: 20 s activated with cooling, 20 s activated without cooling and 40 s activated without cooling.
