[Age-associated features of the development of fibrosis and inflamaging in patients with arterial hypertension and ischemic stroke.].

The article deals with the development of fibrosis and immune inflammation in patients with arterial hypertension and acute ischemic stroke in old age. The aim of the study was to study age-associated features of the concentration of fibrosis markers (metalloproteinase-9, tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinases-1, their ratio MMP-9/TIMP-1), immune inflammation (TNF-α, IL-1β, INF-γ) in patients with arterial hypertension and ischemic stroke (AI). The study included 86 patients with arterial hypertension (AH) of the 2nd degree, of which 42 were middle-aged (53±5 years) and 44 elderly (66±5 years).

[The use of cytoflavin in reperfusion in ischemic stroke].

Objective: to study the efficacy of cytoflavin in thrombolytic treatment of patients with acute ischemic stroke (IS).

Material And Methods: Fifty-five patients in the acute stage of IS were examined. The National Institutes of Health Stroke scale (NIHSS), the Rankin scale and the Barthel index of activities of daily living were used.

Estimation of the toxicity of silver nanoparticles by using planarian flatworms.

The regeneration of planarian flatworms - specifically, changes to the area of the regeneration bud (blastema) after surgical dissection - was proposed for use as a robust tool for estimating the toxicity of silver nanoparticles. The use of Planaria species, due to their unique regenerative capacity, could result in a reduction in the use of more-traditional laboratory animals for toxicity testing. With our novel approach, silver nanoparticles were found to be moderately toxic to the planarian, Girardia tigrina.

[Unification of methods for determining the trace quantities of lead, zinc, sodium and potassium ions in the assessment of drinking water adn transfusion fluid quality].

The results of long-term studies made by the Department of General Chemistry, I. M. Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy, that deals with unification of methods for determining some ions of metals (lead, zinc, sodium, and potassium) in the assessment of the quality of drinking water and transfusion fluids are summarized.

[The effect of positive end-expiratory pressure on respiratory biomechanics in bronchial asthma].

The influence of PEEP breathing has been studied in 43 patients with exacerbation of bronchial asthma (BA) during 20 min in resistance of 5, 7 or 9 sm. Sputum expectoration and inspiration were found improved after PEEP breathing. Moreover, in some patients mild BA attacks relieved.

[Evaluation of the efficiency of a new dried nutrient medium for isolating Corynebacterium diphtheriae].

Tellurite blood media prepared on a new dried base with amino peptide have been found to have advantages, when used for the bacteriological diagnosis of C. diphtheriae infection, over Buchin's selective quinosol medium with respect to the rate and time of the isolation of C. diphtheriae; besides, these new media have been found to possess pronounced differentiating properties with respect to the concomitant microflora.

[A new dried nutrient medium for the isolation of Corynebacterium diphtheriae (its development and experimental study)].

A new dried diagnostic medium for the isolation of C. diphtheriae has been developed on the basis of aminopeptide. This new aminopeptide-based medium compares favorably with Buchin's medium in its growth and inhibitory properties.

[Effect of vitamins and various amino acids on glucose isomerase biosynthesis by Streptomyces albogriseolus culture].

The effect of vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, H, PP and folic acid) and amino acids (glutamic and aspartic acids) on glucose isomerase biosynthesis was studied in Streptomyces albogriseolus. These compounds were added either alone or in combinations to different growth media (synthetic and complex). The results were processed using mathematical methods, and the following mixture of vitamins and amino acids was proposed to be added to the complex fermentation medium: B2, 10 micrograms/L; B6, 10 micrograms/L; H, 1 microgram/L; aspartic acid, 0.

[Changes in the electrolyte composition of the blood and muscles in carp infection with Ichthyophthirius multifiliis (Ciliata, Ophryoglenidae)].

A study of the electrolytic contents of blood serum, erythrocytes and muscles of carp infected with Ichthyophthirius multifiliis was carried out. Whatever the infection intensity, a characteristic increase in the cations K+ and Na+ ratio in the plasma and muscles of infected fishes takes place. The above dependence, which is expressed in the intensification of active ions transport, is associated with mobilization of organism's protective functions.
