The role of epicardial fat radiomic profiles for atrial fibrillation identification and recurrence risk with coronary CT angiography.

Objectives: Fat radiomic profile (FRP) was a promising imaging biomarker for identifying increased cardiac risk. We hypothesize FRP can be extended to fat regions around pulmonary veins (PV), left atrium (LA), and left atrial appendage (LAA) to investigate their usefulness in identifying atrial fibrillation (AF) and the risk of AF recurrence.

Methods: We analysed 300 individuals and grouped patients according to the occurrence and types of AF.

Therefore, the aim of the study was to determine gluteal muscle activity of acceleration-specific exercises compared to traditional strength training exercises.

Multispecific resistance of sheep trichostrongylids in Austria.

Anthelmintic overuse and failure to implement methods preventing the development and spread of anthelmintic resistance (AR) have led to an alarming increase of resistant ovine trichostrongylids worldwide. The aim of the present study was to determine whether the routine anthelmintic treatment strategy was effective, to obtain insights into the frequency of AR in trichostrongylids of sheep in Austria, and to determine the presence of different trichostrongylid genera. On 30 sheep farms, the faecal egg count reduction test (FECRT) was performed with the Mini-FLOTAC technique in two consecutive studies.

Combination of Sorafenib and Transarterial Chemoembolization in Selected Patients with Advanced-Stage Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A Retrospective Cohort Study at Three German Liver Centers.

Background And Aims: Systemic treatment with sorafenib has been the standard of care (SOC) in patients with advanced Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) stage C hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) for more than a decade. TACE has been reported to allow better local tumor control in selected patients with BCLC stage C HCC.

Methods: A retrospective analysis of patients with BCLC stage C HCC that were treated with sorafenib and TACE was conducted; they were compared to BCLC stage C patients treated either with TACE or sorafenib in the same period of time outside a clinical trial.

Septic Arthritis and Osteomyelitis Caused by in a Mute Swan () and a Ring-Billed Gull ().

A 20-year-old female mute swan () originally in a flock of free-living swans on a Long Island, New York, lake, was presented for facial swelling and decreased appetite. An adult male ring-billed gull () was also presented to the same wildlife rescue center for bilateral lameness of 1-week duration. Once referred for veterinary evaluation and care, both species were diagnosed with septic arthritis and osteomyelitis caused by and treated with orbifloxacin until complete recovery.

[Intradermal versus intramuscular vaccine application in suckling piglets - Comparison with regard to dermal reactions, performance and procedural aspects].

Objective: The aim of this study was the scientific evaluation of an intradermal vaccination method in comparison to an intramuscular vaccination against in suckling piglets with regard to skin reactions, performance parameters and procedural aspects. Possible effects on animal welfare should be deduced.

Material And Methods: Under field conditions, 672 suckling piglets in three batches were vaccinated; 338 intradermally and 334 intramuscularly.

The emergence of vocal mimicry is necessarily tied to the evolution of vocal learning, as mimicry requires the ability to acquire sounds through learning.

Leaflet thrombosis following transcatheter aortic valve implantation.

Background: Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is increasingly being offered to high-risk patients with symptomatic aortic valve stenosis. Recent reports have suggested a high incidence of subclinical leaflet thrombosis following bioprosthestic aortic valve replacement. We report the frequency and clinical presentation of leaflet thrombosis identified by cardiac CT in patients referred for follow-up contrast enhanced CT angiography following TAVI.

Background: Allocation of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) to the adequate therapy is determined by both tumor burden and liver function. The Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) staging system and therapeutic algorithm recommends transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) based on the best evidence available to patients with intermediate-stage HCC (BCLC-B). However, many centers also treat subgroups of patients outside these recommendations and with more advanced disease by TACE.

Efficacy and safety of the dopaminergic stabilizer Pridopidine (ACR16) in patients with Huntington's disease.

Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of the dopaminergic stabilizer pridopidine (ACR16) in patients with Huntington's disease (HD).

Methods: In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, 4-week trial, patients with HD received pridopidine (50 mg/d, n = 28) or placebo (n = 30). The primary outcome measure was the change from baseline in weighted cognitive score, assessed by cognitive tests (Symbol Digit Modalities, verbal fluency, and Stroop tests).

Human CD23 (the low affinity IgE receptor) is a B cell differentiation marker involved in inflammatory responses. Two isoforms (CD23a and CD23b) are known, which differ only in their cytoplasmic domain. Whereas CD23b expression is specifically induced by IL-4 on B cells and cells of the myeloid lineage, CD23a expression is restricted to B cells.

The CD23b promoter is a target for NF-AT transcription factors in B-CLL cells.

CD23 is constitutively and atypically expressed on malignant B-cells in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. It exists in two isoforms that differ only in a short amino acid sequence at the N-terminus. The CD23a isoform exhibits an endocytosis signal, that renders it more efficient in antigen uptake than CD23b.

A mutated version of Jun (v-Jun) transduced by the avian retrovirus ASV17 induces oncogenic transformation in avian cell cultures and sarcomas in young galliform birds. In the present study we addressed the question of whether leukemic B cells (B-CLL) are able to suppress regular T cell/B cell interaction.

Background: Ultraviolet light (UVL) upregulates HIV transcription in vitro and in transgenic mice. AIDS-associated psoriasis and pruritus respond to phototherapy.

Objective: Our goal was to determine the effect of phototherapy on viral load and immunologic parameters in HIV-positive patients.

We have analysed differential gene expression in v-jun-transformed chicken embryo fibroblasts (CEF) compared to normal CEF by using the directional tag PCR subtraction method. From a first generation of putative Jun targets four clones were selected for study; they are upregulated in jun-transformed cells. Three of these clones showed homology to known genes: glutaredoxin, growth associated protein (GAP)-43/neuromodulin, and phenobarbital-induced cytochrome P450.

Hormone-regulatable neoplastic transformation induced by a Jun-estrogen receptor chimera.

The v-jun oncogene encodes a nuclear DNA binding protein that functions as a transcription factor and is part of the activator protein 1 complex. Oncogenic transformation by v-jun is thought to be mediated by the aberrant expression of specific target genes. To identify such Jun-regulated genes and to explore the mechanisms by which Jun affects their expression, we have fused the full-length v-Jun and an amino-terminally truncated form of v-Jun to the hormone-binding domain of the human estrogen receptor.
