This study addresses the pressing issues of energy production and consumption, in line with global sustainable development goals. Focusing on the potential of alcohols as "green" alternatives to traditional fossil fuels, especially in biofuel applications, we investigate the thermochemical properties of three alcohols (n-propanol, n-butanol, n-pentanol) blended with sunflower oil. The calorimetric analysis allows for the experimental determination of excess enthalpies in pseudo-binary mixtures at 303.

The data on molar excess enthalpies, HmE, for the binary mixtures acetic acid + n-butanol, acetic acid + n-butyl acetate and n-butanol + n-butyl acetate at 313.15 K and atmospheric pressure were obtained with use of the C80 isothermal mixing calorimeter (Setaram). The correlation of the data was carried out using the NRTL model and Redlich-Kister equation.

This study aims to improve properties of Ultem polyetherimide (PEI) by incorporating up to 2 wt% additives of the perovskite oxide LaYbAlO (LYA). The structure of dense PEI/LYA films was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) in combination with an analysis of their elemental composition using energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The PEI/LYA films exhibit a two-layer structure.

The ability of d-glucose/d-galactose-binding protein (GGBP) to reversibly interact with its ligands, glucose and galactose, makes this protein an attractive candidate for sensing elements of glucose biosensors. This potential is largely responsible for attracting researchers to study the conformational properties of this protein. Previously, we showed that an increase in the fluorescence intensity of the fluorescent dye 6-bromoacetyl-2-dimetylaminonaphtalene (BADAN) is linked to the holo-form of the GGBP/H152C mutant in solutions containing sub-denaturing concentrations of guanidine hydrochloride (GdnHCl).

Aim: To investigate factors that influence annual prognosis in patients with non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome ((NSTEACS) concurrent with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2).

Subjects And Methods: The registry of patients with NSTEACS (non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI), unstable angina) included 415 patients, of them 335 had no carbohydrate metabolic disorders, 80 had DM2. The follow-up period, during which the prognosis was evaluated in the patients, was one year after hospital discharge following the index NSTEACS event.

The study included 74patients (22 men and 52 women) aged 48-75yr with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2). 62 (88,6%) of them had grade II hypertensive disease (grade II-III by the WHO/ISH-2010 classification), 46 (67%) presented with II- III class functional stable angina of effort, 7 patients survived myocardial infarction, two ones underwent coronary artery stenting. Patients of the main group (n=50) received oral hypoglycemic agents in combination with 1-exenatide (mimetic of glucagon-like peptide) in the form of two daily subcutaneous injections of 5 mcg for 1 month and 10 mcg during the next 5 months.

Aim: To study the relationship between polymorphous G-1082A (rs3024491) and C-592A (rs1800872) variants of the IL10 gene and multifocal atherosclerosis (MFA) in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) without segment ST elevation.

Materials And Methods: Genotypes of polymorphous G-1082A (rs3024491) and C-592A (rs1800872) variants of the IL10 gene were determined in 178 patients. Interleukin-10 (IL-10) level was measured in 93 of them using solid-phase immunoenzymatic assay.

Aim: To study clinical manifestations and functional state of myocardium in diabetic patients and in patients of elderly and senile age with myocardial infarction (MI) free of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) with transient hyperglycemia (HG).

Materials And Methods: The study included 170 patients with acute macrofocal and transmural MI (with Q-wave). They were divided into group 1 comprised of diabetic patients with MI (n = 60; 36 men and 24 women; age median 78.

We observed 137 patients, 72 of whom (53%) had hypertension in II trimester of pregnancy, and 65 patients (47%) who had hypertension in perimenopausal period. The comprehensive clinical and instrumental examination was carried out in all patients, including simultaneous 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure (BP) recording (with BP pattern), assessment of vegetative tone using the vegetative index (index Kerdo). Sympathetic/adrenergic activity (SAA) was quantified as β-receptor binding (β-RB).

The examination of 50 patients with acute myocardial infarction indicated that enhanced platelet functional activity was a prognostically unfavourable sign and associated with a higher risk for myocardial infarction complications. The application of aspirin, 250 mg daily, in patients with high platelet functional activity in the acute period of the disease failed to produce a beneficial antiaggregatory effect.

The effects of synthetic antioxidant emoxypine on infarct size and plasma creatine kinase (CK) activity was studied on open-chest anesthetized dogs with 180-min myocardial ischemia followed by reperfusion. Emoxypine (10 and 40 mg/kg) was injected intravenously, beginning since 120th min of coronary artery occlusion. Emoxypine (10 mg/kg) resulted in infarct size limitation and reduction in plasma CK activity.

The paper is concerned with the assessment of hypophyseal somatotropic, prolactotropic and thyrotropic functions during the TRH test in patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus with noticeable signs of diabetic retinopathy. No changes in hypophyseal somatotropic, prolactotropic and thyrotropic functions during the TRH test were noted in patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus without diabetic microangiopathies.

The level of pituitary hormones (somatotropin and prolactin) and pancreatic hormones (insulin and glucagon) was measured by radioimmunoassay in blood of patients with insulin-independent diabetes mellitus with and without diabetic microangiopathies, in the state of decompensation and during treatment. Forty-four patients aged 26 to 60 years were examined. Some patients with insulin-independent diabetes with and without diabetic microangiopathies demonstrated an elevation of blood insulin and glucagon.

Radioimmunoassay was used to measure the content of somatotropic hormone and prolactin in the blood of patients with insulin-dependent diabetes in relation to the duration and degree of diabetic complications in a state of decompensation and during compensation. To have a more descriptive idea of the interrelation between prolactin and somatotrophic hormone (STH), the prolactin/STH index was introduced (the ratio of prolactin indicators to those of STH). Altogether 66 patients aged from 16 to 50 years were examined.

Twelve men, aged 17 to 43 years, with insulin-depending diabetes mellitus were examined during the decompensation stage. The patients were divided into 2 groups, depending on the disease duration. The stage of the hypothalamic-hypophyseal system was evaluated according to the blood plasma STH, TTH and prolactin levels and after intravenous injection of the Soviet thyroliberin (TRH).

Characteristic viscosity, sedimentation constant and optical anisotropy were studied of the complexes formed between DNA and histone fractions F3 and F3+F2a2. The parameters mentioned continuously change with the increase of protein content within the complex. Analysis of experimental data shows that binding of a histone bads to a decrease of size and thermodynamic rigidity of the DNA molecule.
