Although every youth in pediatric/adolescent HIV care will need to transition to adult-oriented care, there are no existing evidence-based interventions to optimize health through this process. Healthcare transition poses a persistent challenge to the health of youth living with HIV, which may result in gaps in care engagement, medication adherence, and viral suppression. Our process evaluation of , a multilevel mobile health (mHealth) intervention, included iterative interviews with youth, providers, and Transition Champions.

To address both accessibility and the shortage of available providers, evidence-based treatments that can be delivered via guided self-management modalities are a potential solution.
Objective: This study aims to determine the feasibility and acceptability of a randomized controlled trial of 2 guided self-management interventions.
Otoplasty has been described for nearly 200 years for children and adults. Although auricular deformity has been recognized in newborns, treatment options were lacking. With the development of ear molding techniques, newborn ear deformities can now be corrected nonsurgically.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFlood risk has become a major concern in many regions due to socio-economic growth and rising water levels. In this paper, we introduce a real options model that integrates the Generalized Additive Models for Location, Scale, and Shape framework with Extreme Value Theory to evaluate adaptation measures for flood risk management. Our model allows for uncertain water level rise, climate indices and growing loss exposure.

Nevertheless, the effect of distance on metacommunity structure remains little studied. We examine how plant-pollinator community structure changes across geographical distances at a regional scale and disentangle its underlying local and regional processes.

To interrogate the mechanisms of RV-C-mediated disease, animal models are essential. Towards this, RV-C infection was recently reported in wild-type (WT) mice, yet, titers were not sustained.

We propose that infants allocate their attention toward and learn from external events that are contingent on their own behaviors. We tested the robustness of the influence of contingency on communicative learning by using a non-biological stimulus, a remote-controlled car, as the social partner. The car approached infants and produced a speech sound either contingently to infants' vocalizations or on a yoked schedule.

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is highly effective in preventing HIV transmission, but is underprescribed, including in the US. Lack of clinician comfort and knowledge are the most cited reasons for this discrepancy.

Impaired protein import not only depletes mitochondria of essential factors but also leads to toxic accumulation of un-imported proteins outside the organelle. Here, we investigate the consequences of impaired mitochondrial protein import in human cells.

Encrypted, closed group chats delivered via WhatsApp provided peer support and improved communication between adolescents with HIV, their caregivers, and healthcare providers. We randomized 80 South African adolescents ages 15 to 19 years with perinatally-acquired HIV to receive either the intervention (n=40) or standard of care (n=40).

Data Sources And Study Setting: 2012-2024 VA administrative and survey data.
Study Design: This is a summary of findings and impacts from four effectiveness-implementation projects focused on in-person and/or online DPP across VA sites.
The skin of bony fish is the first physical barrier and is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the fish. Lesions make the skin vulnerable to potential infection by pathogens present in the aquatic environment. In this way, wound repair has barely been studied in gilthead sea bream.

Methods: We collected coronal sulcus swabs at baseline and on days 7 and 14 post-circumcision from infants assigned to receive EIMC by Mogen Clamp (n = 15) or ShangRing (n = 15), in a randomised trial in Rakai and Kakuuto, Uganda. We used 16S rRNA gene-based sequencing and broad-coverage qPCR to characterise the infant penile microbiome and assess the effects of EIMC in both study arms.
Somatic mutations are desirable targets for selective elimination of cancer, yet most are found within noncoding regions. We have adapted the CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing tool as a novel, cancer-specific killing strategy by targeting the subset of somatic mutations that create protospacer adjacent motifs (PAMs), which have evolutionally allowed bacterial cells to distinguish between self and non-self DNA for Cas9-induced double strand breaks. Whole genome sequencing (WGS) of paired tumor minus normal (T-N) samples from three pancreatic cancer patients (Panc480, Panc504, and Panc1002) showed an average of 417 somatic PAMs per tumor produced from single base substitutions.

A total of 444 candidates were identified: approximately half of candidates were in active development, two-thirds had been repurposed after initially being used for another condition, and just under half were in preclinical studies. Only 64 candidates were in active late-stage (phase 3) development as of Oct 25, 2021, and given the slow pace of biomedical development, it could take years before any of these products eventually make it to market.

To explore the hypothesis that RNT and insomnia are related, we conducted secondary analyses on data from a pilot clinical trial of cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) for cancer survivors.
Methods: This study analyzed survey data from 40 cancer survivors with insomnia who participated in a pilot randomized trial of CBT-I.
Purpose: To evaluate both the early experience of real-world patients treated with dexamethasone ophthalmic insert (0.4 mg; DEXTENZA), hereafter referred to as DEX, after cataract surgery as well as staff/practice integration of DEX relative to eyedrops.
Patients And Methods: This was a cross-sectional survey study of 23 cataract practices in the United States.
Objective: The ideal inpatient insulin regimen efficiently attains the target blood glucose range, effectively treats hyperglycemia, and minimizes the risk of hypoglycemia. The objective of this study was to compare glycemic targets achieved by using correctional monotherapy (CM) and basal-bolus therapy (BBT) in insulin-naive patients in the inpatient setting to determine optimal blood glucose management for these patients.
Design: This was a retrospective observational cohort study of 792 patients with diabetes not on home insulin therapy who were admitted to an academic hospital over a 5.
Background: Prediction of drug-induced long QT syndrome (diLQTS) is of critical importance given its association with torsades de pointes. There is no reliable method for the outpatient prediction of diLQTS.
Objectives: This study sought to evaluate the use of a convolutional neural network (CNN) applied to electrocardiograms (ECGs) to predict diLQTS in an outpatient population.
Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is an exceedingly rare congenital syndrome of chromosome 15 that presents multiple comorbidities in said individuals. The associated quality of life for those with the disease is often severely diminished; more tragically, mortality associated with the disease is also increased. Pulmonary embolism (PE) is highly associated with mortality and has been shown to be more prevalent in patients with PWS.
