Subjective estimation of ergonomic conditions of working with video display units.

In a group of 49 operators entering data into video display units, the type and frequency of subjective complaints were assessed and subjective assessment of ergonomic working conditions was examined. A detailed ergonomic analysis of the equipment and workplaces was done. The results showed a high frequency of subjective complaints.

Ergonomic analysis of informatics equipment.

Ergonomic analysis of video display units (VDUs) was carried out in an institution in Zagreb. Altogether 39 ergonomic features were analysed according to the Swedish programme Screen Checker. The VDU operators were administered a questionnaire on subjective complaints in connection with work conditions.

[Non-ionizing radiation protection in medicine].

Non-ionizing radiation is extensively used in medicine for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Health risks from exposure to different sources of non-ionizing radiation are still not well known. High exposure to non-ionizing radiation produces acute effects on sensitive organs, mostly depending on radiation intensity, frequency and exposure duration.

Health status of personnel occupationally exposed to radiowaves.

The findings of medical examinations performed in two groups of persons occupationally exposed to microwaves and radiofrequency radiation are presented in comparison with control findings. A group of 49 radar operators from the Zagreb Air Traffic Control was examined twice within a period of 18 months. The other group comprised 46 workers employed in radio relay stations.

Psychological and ergonomic aspects of work with video display terminals.

Forty-nine operators of video display terminals were administered a questionnaire on subjective complaints in connection with work conditions. Measurements of non-ionizing and ionizing radiation emissions during normal operation of video display terminals showed them to be within permissible levels. A detailed ergonomic analysis of equipment and workstations was also performed.

[Hematologic changes in workers exposed to radio wave radiation].

Haematological parameters were measured in 43 radar operators employed in air traffic control occupationally exposed to microwave radiation of low intensity over a period of four years. Exposure to heat, soft X-ray radiation and noise were within maximally allowed limits. The haematological changes included a decreased number of erythrocytes, reticulocytes, platelets, segmented granulocytes and monocytes, and an increased number of leucocytes and lymphocytes.
