Oocyte Cryopreservation in Transgender and Gender-Diverse Individuals With or Without Prior Testosterone Use.

To evaluate oocyte cryopreservation among transgender and gender-diverse adolescents and young adults with or without prior testosterone exposure, we performed a retrospective cohort study of all patients younger than age 35 years referred for oocyte cryopreservation through our formal fertility-preservation program from 2014 to 2023. The number of patients referred and pursuing fertility preservation increased over time. Among the 93 patients referred, 37 pursued oocyte cryopreservation (31 testosterone-naïve and six testosterone-exposed).

Importance: Fertility preservation (FP), including oocyte and embryo cryopreservation prior to gonadotoxic therapy, is an urgent and essential component of comprehensive cancer care. Geographic proximity to a center offering FP is a critical component of ensuring equitable access for people with cancer desiring future fertility.

Reproductive care is vulnerable to disruptions in energy, transportation, and supply chains as well as may have potential destructive impacts on infrastructure. With the relentless progression of events related to climate change, centers can expect a growing number of such disruptive events and must prepare to deal with them.

ACCORD guideline for reporting consensus-based methods in biomedical research and clinical practice: a study protocol.

Background: Structured, systematic methods to formulate consensus recommendations, such as the Delphi process or nominal group technique, among others, provide the opportunity to harness the knowledge of experts to support clinical decision making in areas of uncertainty. They are widely used in biomedical research, in particular where disease characteristics or resource limitations mean that high-quality evidence generation is difficult. However, poor reporting of methods used to reach a consensus - for example, not clearly explaining the definition of consensus, or not stating how consensus group panellists were selected - can potentially undermine confidence in this type of research and hinder reproducibility.

Increasing selection of and engagement in physical activity in children with autism spectrum disorder.

Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) engage in reduced levels of physical activity relative to neurotypical children. Researchers conducted 2 studies to 1) evaluate the influence of the number of physical activity options and effort on choice and 2) develop a token-based intervention to increase physical activity engagement and evaluate whether the opportunity to access the intervention supported responding similar to physical or sedentary activity alone. Four children with ASD participated.

Early-life trauma, negative and positive life events, compulsive sexual behavior disorder and risky sexual action tendencies among young women with substance use disorder.

Although significant advances have been made in the field to date, gender-based issues for women remain a neglected area in much of substance abuse research. In the current study we examined two gaps in the literature: the co-occurrence of compulsive sexual behavior disorder (CSBD) and risky sexual action tendencies among women with substance use disorders (SUDs), and their shared antecedents in the form of early life adversity and negative life events. The sample comprised 132 women of whom 62 had substance use disorder (drug and alcohol) and 70 were healthy controls.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease characterized by synovial hyperplasia and inflammation. The finding of autoantibodies in seropositive RA suggests that complement system activation might play a pathophysiologic role due to the local presence of immune complexes in the joints. Our first objective was to explore the Pathobiology of Early Arthritis Cohort (PEAC) mRNA sequencing data for correlations between clinical disease severity as measured by DAS28-ESR (disease activity score in 28 joints for erythrocyte sedimentation rate) and complement system gene expression, both in the synovium and in blood.
