Despite its conserved appearance and function, how synapsis occurs between chromosome axes remains elusive. Here, we demonstrate that Polo-like kinases (PLKs) phosphorylate a single conserved residue in the disordered C-terminal tails of two paralogous SC subunits, SYP-5 and SYP-6, to establish an electrostatic interface between the SC central region and chromosome axes in C.

In chamber experiments, we have systematically explored their gas phase oxidation by hydroxyl radical (OH) as a potential source of secondary organic aerosol (SOA). OH-initiated oxidation of both compounds in the presence of ammonium bisulfate aerosol resulted in substantial aerosol volume growth.

Mapping Pesticide-Induced Metabolic Alterations in Human Gut Bacteria.

Pesticides can modulate gut microbiota (GM) composition, but their specific effects on GM remain largely elusive. Our study demonstrated that pesticides inhibit or promote growth in various GM species, even at low concentrations, and can accumulate in GM to prolong their presence in the host. Meanwhile, the pesticide induced changes in GM composition are associated with significant alterations in gut bacterial metabolism that reflected by the changes of hundreds of metabolites.

Experimental data indicate enhanced brain growth and cognitive development in the mouse offspring given milk deficient in TNF and TNF-dependent chemokines. Although monoclonal antibodies against TNF (TNFmAb) are used during breastfeeding due to minimal milk excretion, whether it affects endogenous TNF levels in human milk is unclear.

Associations between Barriers to Food Pantry Use, Visit Frequency, Pantry Experiences, and Amount of Food Received.

Barriers to food pantry use have been identified but little information is available regarding how these barriers are related to food pantry use. The purpose of this study was to assess relationships between barriers and (1) user demographic characteristics, (2) visit frequency and amount of food received, and (3) satisfaction with pantry visit experiences. Data were used from the 2022 Minnesota Food Shelf Survey, which included responses from 288 food pantries across the state with 6267 individuals reporting on barriers to pantry use.

Regardless of baseline psychiatric symptom severity, individuals can improve from psychotherapy, including from low-intensity psychosocial treatments. We conducted a secondary analysis of a randomized trial of low-intensity mindfulness interventions to explore if and how specific indices of baseline symptom severity were associated with well-being trajectories during treatment and follow-up. In the original study, participants ( = 4, 411) with physical and mental health conditions were randomly assigned to one of two low-intensity mindfulness interventions (eight-session mindfulness-based cognitive therapy or a three-session mindfulness intervention).

This study estimates the potential impact of interpretations of the ruling on federal wetlands protections, using a qualitative measure of wetland "wetness" as a proxy for the new requirement.

Conceptualizing Correlated Residuals as Item-Level Method Effects in Confirmatory Factor Analysis.

Conceptualizing two-variable disturbances preventing good model fit in confirmatory factor analysis as item-level method effects instead of correlated residuals avoids violating the principle that residual variation is unique for each item. The possibility of representing such a disturbance by a method factor of a bifactor measurement model was investigated with respect to model identification. It turned out that a suitable way of realizing the method factor is its integration into a fixed-links, parallel-measurement or tau-equivalent measurement submodel that is part of the bifactor model.

We conducted an exploratory analysis of SEE using data from a clinical trial designed to increase physical activity (N = 340). Chemical transformation of 2-methyltetrol sulfates (2-MTS), key isoprene-derived secondary organic aerosol (SOA) constituents, through heterogeneous hydroxyl radical (OH) oxidation can result in the formation of previously unidentified atmospheric organosulfates (OSs). However, detected OSs cannot fully account for the sulfur content released from reacted 2-MTS, indicating the existence of sulfur in forms other than OSs such as inorganic sulfates. This work investigated the formation of inorganic sulfates through heterogeneous OH oxidation of 2-MTS aerosols.
