Article Synopsis
  • The study discusses a case of a 21-year-old woman with rare, grouped lesions known as acquired agminated nevi located in her axillae.
  • Using a picosecond 532 nm Nd:YAG laser, significant cosmetic improvement was achieved after multiple treatments, outperforming other laser types.
  • The research highlights the uniqueness of the case due to the bilateral occurrence of the nevi and emphasizes the importance of monitoring post-treatment since potential risks like atypia and melanoma can arise.

Objectives: To characterize the properties of cutaneous defects created by energy-based devices using optical coherence tomography.

Materials And Methods: Radiofrequency (RF) microneedling and non-ablative fractional laser (NAFL) treatment were performed in vivo with various parameters. Following treatment, optical coherence tomography (OCT) was used to image and measure cutaneous defects at multiple time points over a 24 h period.

Objectives: The absorption of biostimulatory particulate matter following its application to fractional skin defects remains poorly understood, and even less is known about its in vivo impact in terms of tissue integration. The objectives of this study are twofold: (1) to evaluate the potential of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) to penetrate through skin treated with a fractional laser; and (2) to assess the effectiveness of clinical laser scanning microscopy technologies in monitoring the effects of such treatment over time.

Methods: One area on a volunteer's arm was treated with a fractional erbium laser (Sciton Inc.

Article Synopsis
  • Iatrogenic cutaneous siderosis is a skin condition characterized by dark patches near injection sites from iron infusions, causing aesthetic and psychological issues for patients, and often doesn't resolve on its own.
  • A systematic review of the effectiveness of energy-based devices to treat this condition included 54 female patients, mostly around 44 years old, primarily affected after intravenous iron infusion for iron deficiency anemia.
  • Six different laser systems were analyzed, showing over half of patients experienced complete clearance after an average of 5.4 treatments, with the Nd:YAG 532 nm laser showing the best results in the case discussed.

Hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia (HED) is a genetic disorder characterized by hypohidrosis, hypodontia, and hypotrichosis. Skin manifestations, including dyspigmentation and milia-like papules that coalesce into plaques, are difficult to treat. There is no cure for HED, therefore treatment is focused on managing symptoms and improving quality of life.

Many animal species show aggression to gain mating partners and to protect territories and other resources from competitors. Both male and female fruit flies of the species exhibit aggression in same-sex pairings, but the strategies used are sexually dimorphic. We have begun to explore the biological basis for the differing aggression strategies, and the cues promoting one form of aggression over the other.

Background: Psoriasis severity is usually evaluated using quantitative and qualitative measures, including per cent body surface area (BSA) involvement, the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) and the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), a patient-reported questionnaire. However, standardized definitions for psoriasis severity categories have not been well established. A PASI of 10 or 12 has remained the minimal severity threshold defining eligibility for psoriasis treatments.

Some studies have shown that laser irradiation on unpolymerized adhesives can improve composite-dentin adhesion. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of the diode laser (810 nm) on the microleakage of multi-mode adhesive systems at enamel and dentin margins of composite restorations. Classic class V boxes were prepared on 48 sound premolar teeth and randomly divided into 6 groups (n=16).

Background: Dermatology experiences a disproportionately high burden of prior authorizations (PAs).

Objective: To examine the effect of a centralized pharmacy intervention on the PA process and the impact of PAs on patient outcomes.

Methods: A retrospective review of PAs submitted for medications before and after implementation of pharmacy intervention was conducted.

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a frequently devastating inflammatory skin disorder. Although many treatments have been tried and tested to date, there is only one Food and Drug Administration-approved treatment option, adalimumab, which is currently indicated for moderateto- severe HS. Our understanding of the management of HS with biologic agents and with nonantibiotic and/ or antimicrobial systemic therapies continues to evolve.

Introduction: Despite a growing arsenal of therapies for psoriasis and, consequently, an increasing number of advertisements for these treatments, many psoriasis patients still remain untreated. While the primary treatment seeking motivations for these patients have been identified, it is unknown if the commercials for the medications designed to encourage patient engagement in treatment are relevant to these concerns.

Methods: Online databases for national television advertisements were searched for psoriasis treatment commercials broadcast between 2000 and 2018.

Background: One of the major limitations of zirconia ceramic is the difficulty to adhere to dental. Said adhesion improves the marginal sealing of the restoration, minimizing microleakage. According to the limitation of zirconia ceramic bonding, zirconia primer enhances bond strengths to Zirconia, Alumina and Metal substrates.

Background: Hormonal therapy is a potential treatment for hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). However, few data exist describing the efficacy of spironolactone in treatment of HS.

Objective: To assess whether spironolactone treatment improves HS disease severity and patient-reported pain.
