Stature estimation from the scapula measurements using 3D-volume rendering technique by regression equations in the Northern Indian population.

The present study assessed the correlation between the stature and scapular measurements from both sides in order to develop population-specific regression equations to estimate the stature from measurements of the scapula in a contemporary Northern Indian population individually for the left and right sides. A total of 597 cadavers underwent postmortem multidetector computed tomography and subsequent medicolegal autopsy in our department between August 2021 and August 2022. Two hundred samples (100 males and 100 females) were randomly collected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria.

Post-mortem CT: A Useful Tool to Confirm a Case of Suspected Sudden Cardiac Death.

Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is defined as the unexpected death of an individual, not due to any extracardiac cause, occurring within one hour of symptom onset or within 24 hours of last being seen in good health if the death is unwitnessed. Forensic pathologists routinely encounter several SCD cases in their practice. The presentation of such cases can be of two types; firstly, with typical signs and symptoms suggestive of cardiac pathology, and secondly, devoid of any presentation history.

Risk estimates of anxiety and depressive disorders among primary care patients with chronic medical illness - A Indian study.

Risk estimates of depression and anxiety disorders in primary care patients was studied in 7017 patients from 71 primary health centres in Kerala, India. When compared to those without, patients with a single chronic medical illness had approximately 3-4-fold higher rates of depression and anxiety disorders; this increases to 6-fold when the number of medical illnesses is two or more. Patients with hypertension, diabetes, epilepsy, tuberculosis, asthma, and arthritis had higher odds of depression after controlling for socio-demographic variables and co-occurring medical illnesses.

Dithiothreitol causes toxicity in by modulating the methionine-homocysteine cycle.

The redox reagent dithiothreitol (DTT) causes stress in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) by disrupting its oxidative protein folding environment, which results in the accumulation and misfolding of the newly synthesized proteins. DTT may potentially impact cellular physiology by ER-independent mechanisms; however, such mechanisms remain poorly characterized. Using the nematode model , here we show that DTT toxicity is modulated by the bacterial diet.

Silica Nanoparticles from Coir Pith Synthesized by Acidic Sol-Gel Method Improve Germination Economics.

Lignin is a natural biopolymer. A vibrant and rapid process in the synthesis of silica nanoparticles by consuming the lignin as a soft template was carefully studied. The extracted biopolymer from coir pith was employed as capping and stabilizing agents to fabricate the silica nanoparticles (Si).

Extracellular Proteostasis: Laying Siege to Pathogens.

How protein homeostasis is maintained in the extracellular space remains poorly studied. A recent study employed a Caenorhabditis elegans model to carry out a systematic analysis of the extracellular proteostasis network and uncovered its role in combating a pathogenic attack.

Prevalence of hoarding disorder among primary care patients.

Objectives: Despite the inclusion of hoarding disorder (HD) in the DSM-5, there is little epidemiological data on hoarding from low and middle-income countries. This study, the first from India, examines the prevalence and correlates of HD among primary care patients in the state of Kerala, India.

Methods: To assess correlates, the Hoarding Rating Scale-Interview (HRS-I) and other structured instruments were administered to 7,555 subjects selected by stratified random sampling from 71 primary health centers.

Insomnia Among Elderly Primary Care Patients in India.

Objective: To assess insomnia and its health correlates among elderly primary care patients in India.

Methods: A multicenter, cross-sectional survey was administered to 1,770 elderly primary care patients from 71 government primary health centers in Kerala, India, from May to December 2016. Insomnia was evaluated using the Insomnia Severity Index.

Wireless sensing system for the welfare of sewer labourers.

There is a growing demand for the environmental pollution monitoring and control systems. In the view of ever increasing sources of toxic chemicals, these systems should have the facilities to detect and calibrate the source quickly. Toxic gases are the ones that cause health impact but humans are being exposed to it in various situations.

Insomnia in primary care-a study from India.

Objectives: To study the prevalence and clinical correlates of insomnia among a sample of primary care attendees, in the state of Kerala, India.

Design: Cross-sectional survey.

Setting: Primary care.

Prevalence & correlates of chronic perinatal pain - a study from India.

To study the prevalence of chronic perinatal pain among mothers who had infants between the ages of 13-25 months in the State of Kerala, India and to report its correlates in the socio-demographic, obstetric and psychological domains. A total of 9305 mothers selected by cluster random sampling were assessed cross-sectionally for chronic perinatal pain using a questionnaire by Junior Public Health Nurses (JPHNs). In addition, information regarding socio-demographic profile, obstetric history, infant details and perinatal depression were collected.

DNA methylation and cancer.

Cancer has been considered a genetic disease with a wide array of well-characterized gene mutations and chromosomal abnormalities. Of late, aberrant epigenetic modifications have been elucidated in cancer, and together with genetic alterations, they have been helpful in understanding the complex traits observed in neoplasia. "Cancer Epigenetics" therefore has contributed substantially towards understanding the complexity and diversity of various cancers.

Hypomethylation of the DNMT3L promoter in ocular surface squamous neoplasia.

Context: Cancer is known to have epigenetic inputs, with events like genomewide hypomethylation and gene-specific hypermethylation of DNA. The DNA methyltransferase enzymes act as effectors of this reprogramming. A previous study revealed that hypomethylation at the DNA methyltransferase 3-like (DNMT3L) promoter could be a potential biomarker in cervical tumors.

Reprogramming of HeLa cells upon DNMT3L overexpression mimics carcinogenesis.

Previously we had discovered loss of DNA methylation at the DNMT3L promoter, an enzymatically-inactive DNA methyltransferase, in squamous cell carcinoma of cervix indicating association between cancer and DNMT3L. This study extends this correlation further by identifying the role of DNMT3L in nuclear reprogramming, an event central to the process of carcinogenesis. We show that in cervical cancer cell lines, overexpression of DNMT3L, which functions by regulating the activity of DNMT3A and DNMT3B, increased cellular proliferation and anchorage-independent growth.

DNA methylation profile at the DNMT3L promoter: a potential biomarker for cervical cancer.

Epigenetic events play a prominent role during cancer development. This is evident from the fact that almost all cancer types show aberrant DNA methylation. These abnormal DNA methylation levels are not restricted to just a few genes but affect the whole genome.
