Copper(II)-Catalyzed Amination of Aryl Chlorides in Aqueous Ammonia.

Anilines are ubiquitous in bio-active compounds and their synthesis can be achieved via metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions involving aryl halides. We describe an unusual, yet simple, Cu-catalyzed system for the amination of aryl chlorides in pure aqueous ammonia with 2.5 mol % catalyst loading under non-inert conditions.

Palladium-Catalyzed Amination of Aryl Halides with Aqueous Ammonia and Hydroxide Base Enabled by Ligand Development.

The conversion of aryl halides to primary arylamines with a convenient and inexpensive source of ammonia has been a long-standing synthetic challenge. Aqueous ammonia would be the most convenient and least expensive form of ammonia, but such a palladium-catalyzed amination reaction with a high concentration of water faces challenges concerning catalyst stability and competing hydroxylation, and palladium-catalyzed reactions with this practical reagent are rare. Further, most reactions with ammonia to form primary amines are conducted with -butoxide base, but reactions with ammonium hydroxide would contain hydroxide as base.

Prediction of Malnutrition and the Relationships Among Pain, Function, Depression, and Cancer Stage in Older Women With Breast Cancer.

Background: Older women diagnosed with breast cancer are at risk for malnutrition.

Objectives: This article aims to evaluate the relationships among cancer stage, pain, functional status, depression, and malnutrition, and to determine whether these symptoms predict nutritional status.

Methods: This cross-sectional study included women (N = 72) aged 70 years or older diagnosed with breast cancer at an academic medical center in the midwestern United States.

Unlabelled: The aim of this research was to characterize cognitive abilities in patients with Glut1-Deficiency syndrome (Glut1DS) following ketogenic diet therapy (KDT).

Methods: The cognitive profiles of eight children were assessed using the Wechsler Intelligence Scale (WISC-IV). The effect of ketogenic diet therapy (KDT) on individual subareas of intelligence was analyzed considering the potential influence of speech motor impairments.

Bilateral Lung Transplantation With Donor Positive for COVID-19 Infection on Bronchoalveolar Lavage: A Case Report.

Initial experience with lung transplant of COVID-19-positive donors was marked by disappointing results, including a reported case of mortality through donor to recipient transmission of infection. However, since that time a number of improvements in preventative and therapeutic measures against COVID-19 have been developed. We present the case of a 51-year-old woman with scleroderma-associated interstitial lung disease who was awaiting lung transplant.

Mucus Clearance Strategies in Mechanically Ventilated Patients.

The use of airway clearance strategies as supplementary treatment in respiratory disease has been best investigated in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) and non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis (NCFBE), conditions which are traditionally characterized by excessive mucus stasis and mucociliary dysfunction. A variety of airway clearance therapies both pharmacological and non-pharmacological have been shown to ameliorate disease progression in this population and have hence been assimilated into routine respiratory care. This self-propagating cycle of mucus retention and airway damage leading to chronic inflammation and infections can also be applied to patients with respiratory failure requiring mechanical ventilation.

Letter to the Editor: "Use of inhaled epoprostenol with high flow nasal oxygen in non-intubated patients with severe COVID-19".

Purpose: Acute lung injury associated with COVID-19 contributes significantly to its morbidity and mortality. Though invasive mechanical ventilation is sometimes necessary, the use of high flow nasal oxygen may avoid the need for mechanical ventilation in some patients. For patients approaching the limits of high flow nasal oxygen support, addition of inhaled pulmonary vasodilators is becoming more common but little is known about its effects.

Constraints on Cosmic Strings Using Data from the Third Advanced LIGO-Virgo Observing Run.

We search for gravitational-wave signals produced by cosmic strings in the Advanced LIGO and Virgo full O3 dataset. Search results are presented for gravitational waves produced by cosmic string loop features such as cusps, kinks, and, for the first time, kink-kink collisions. A template-based search for short-duration transient signals does not yield a detection.

Ophthalmia neonatorum in a tertiary referral children's hospital: A retrospective study.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the aetiology, investigation and management of ophthalmia neonatorum (ON) presenting to a tertiary referral children's hospital over 5 years.

Methods: The eye swab data of all neonates presenting to Children's Health Ireland at Temple Street (Dublin, Ireland) between 1st January 2013 and 3rd September 2018 was analysed. The medical records of all patients with positive eye swab results were retrospectively reviewed.

Prospects for observing and localizing gravitational-wave transients with Advanced LIGO, Advanced Virgo and KAGRA.

We present our current best estimate of the plausible observing scenarios for the Advanced LIGO, Advanced Virgo and KAGRA gravitational-wave detectors over the next several years, with the intention of providing information to facilitate planning for multi-messenger astronomy with gravitational waves. We estimate the sensitivity of the network to transient gravitational-wave signals for the third (O3), fourth (O4) and fifth observing (O5) runs, including the planned upgrades of the Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo detectors. We study the capability of the network to determine the sky location of the source for gravitational-wave signals from the inspiral of binary systems of compact objects, that is binary neutron star, neutron star-black hole, and binary black hole systems.

Cross-Coupling between Hydrazine and Aryl Halides with Hydroxide Base at Low Loadings of Palladium by Rate-Determining Deprotonation of Bound Hydrazine.

Reported here is the Pd-catalyzed C-N coupling of hydrazine with (hetero)aryl chlorides and bromides to form aryl hydrazines with catalyst loadings as low as 100 ppm of Pd and KOH as base. Mechanistic studies revealed two catalyst resting states: an arylpalladium(II) hydroxide and arylpalladium(II) chloride. These compounds are present in two interconnected catalytic cycles and react with hydrazine and base or hydrazine alone to give the product.

Novel Cytogenetic Characterization of Pleomorphic Hyalinizing Angiectatic Tumor (PHAT).

Pleomorphic hyalinizing angiectatic tumor (PHAT) is a rare soft tissue tumor that, despite its characteristic marked pleomorphism, is slow growing and of intermediate grade malignancy. PHAT is not known to metastasize, but is locally aggressive with a post-excision recurrence rate of up to 50%. Two other soft tissue tumors, hemosiderotic fibrolipomatous tumor (HFLT) and myxoinflammatory fibroblastic sarcoma (MIFS), share some morphological features with PHAT, and all three have been found to possess a t(1;10) translocation.

We herein found that ablation of the Gq/11α-like, extralarge Gα subunit (XLαs), a product of GNAS, exhibits FGF23 deficiency and hyperphosphatemia in early postnatal mice (XLKO).

Perfect control of photoelectron anisotropy for randomly oriented ensembles of molecules by XUV REMPI and polarization shaping.

We report two schemes to generate perfect anisotropy in the photoelectron angular distribution of a randomly oriented ensemble of polyatomic molecules. In order to exert full control over the anisotropy of photoelectron emission, we exploit interferences between single-photon pathways and a manifold of resonantly enhanced two-photon pathways. These are shown to outperform nonsequential (ω, 2ω) bichromatic phase control for the example of CHFClBr molecules.

Tests of General Relativity with GW170817.

The recent discovery by Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo of a gravitational wave signal from a binary neutron star inspiral has enabled tests of general relativity (GR) with this new type of source. This source, for the first time, permits tests of strong-field dynamics of compact binaries in the presence of matter. In this Letter, we place constraints on the dipole radiation and possible deviations from GR in the post-Newtonian coefficients that govern the inspiral regime.

Features of schizophrenia following premorbid eating disorders.

Objective: Eating disorders (ED) and schizophrenia are frequently comorbid and schizophrenia shares genetic susceptibility with anorexia. Many factors associated with schizophrenia can disrupt eating, but ED can present years before schizophrenia. If premorbid ED distinguishes a particular subtype of schizophrenia, then phenotypic features may differ between schizophrenia cases with and without premorbid ED.

Total and Differential White Blood Cell Counts, Cocaine, and Marijuana Use in Patients With Schizophrenia.

Schizophrenia is associated with blood inflammatory marker abnormalities. Illicit drug use, which is common in schizophrenia, may modulate inflammatory marker levels. We examined effects of marijuana and cocaine use on white blood cell (WBC) counts in acutely ill, hospitalized patients with schizophrenia using a within-subjects and between-groups design.
