Article Synopsis
  • Sever's disease is a common cause of foot pain in children and may be linked to a higher prevalence of ADHD, particularly among boys.
  • A study involving 88 children with Sever's disease found 70.5% had ADHD compared to just 13.3% in a control group.
  • The findings suggest that children with Sever's disease, especially males, should be assessed for ADHD, as this could provide important insights for treatment.

The constituents of the aqueous, ethanol, hexane, and methanol extracts of Anatolian propolis collected from the Eastern Black Sea Region (Çayeli-Rize) were investigated by GC-MS, HPLC and AAS. Interestingly, lactulose has been identified. Ten phenolic compounds, namely caffeic acid, ferulic acid, rutin, taxifolin, quercetin, kaempferol, apigenin, silicristin, silibinin and gallic acid were determined.

Background: Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) can cross the placenta and thereby expose the fetus, which may lead to developmental consequences. It is still unclear which chemicals are of concern regarding neurodevelopment and specifically behaviour, when being exposed to a mixture.

Objective: The objective is to determine associations between prenatal exposure to EDCs and behavioural difficulties.

Introduction: Spina bifida is a condition that impacts the development of the neural tube leading to urological and gastrointestinal symptoms. Both systems are influenced together due to their shared innervation and embryological origin. Despite its impact on health and well-being there has been limited research on the relationship between manometry results and urodynamic tests, in this patient population.

Lung cancer (LC) accounts for approximately 25% of all cancer cases, with 80-85% of these being non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). VS-5584 is a novel anti-cancer agent that specifically inhibits mTORC1/2 and class I PI3K isoforms. There is cross-talk between the PI3K-Akt-mTOR and WNT signaling pathways that are abnormally activated in NSCLC.

Inhalers spray over 100 million drug particles into the mouth, where a significant portion of the drug may deposit. Understanding how the complex interplay between particle and solid phases influence deposition is crucial for optimising treatments. Existing modelling studies neglect any effect of particle momentum on the fluid (one-way coupling), which may cause poor prediction of forces acting on particles.

Article Synopsis
  • * A comparison was made between 195 patients regarding hearing improvement and 211 patients for GSR, focusing on 103 DLG and 108 SLG patients' postoperative results.
  • * Findings revealed that while the DLG group had slightly better hearing averages, there was no significant difference in hearing gain or GSR between DLG and SLG, suggesting DLG may not be the better choice and could potentially negatively impact hearing.

This research aims to minimize the environmental impact and promote the sustainability of aquaculture by optimizing nutrient dynamics, improving water quality and enhancing species growth performance through a land-based Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) system. The study focused on Black Sea trout (Salmo labrax), Mediterranean mussel (Mytilus galloprovincialis), and sea lettuce (Ulva lactuca), reared in interconnected tanks using Black Sea water over 90 days. The Black Sea trout more than doubled in size to 333.

Pleural mesothelioma (PM), a rare malignant tumor explicitly associated with asbestos and erionite exposures, has become a global health problem due to limited treatment options and a poor prognosis, in which the median life expectancy varies depending on the method of treatment. However, the importance of early diagnosis is emphasized, and the practical methods have not matured yet. This study provides a critical overview of PM, addressing various aspects like epidemiology, etiology, diagnosis, treatment options, and the potential use of advanced technologies like microfluidic chip-based models for research and diagnosis.

Introduction: Children with spina bifida (SB) experience a reduced quality of life due to neurogenic bladder dysfunction and the risk of renal failure later in life. Pelvic floor rehabilitation (PFR) and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) have gained prominence in recent years due to their positive effects in treating different types of bladder issues in both adults and children. Our study aims to investigate the effects of using these two methods together in children with SB and to delineate their potential value for clinical practice.

  • * Researchers collected 1,346 nasopharyngeal swab samples, isolating 879 high-quality genomes for analysis, focusing on clades, lineages, age-related associations, and mutations over a 10-month period.
  • * Specific variants like B.1.1.7 (Alpha) and B.1.617.2 (Delta) were identified, along with unique mutations linked to the later Omicron variant, emphasizing the need for ongoing genetic monitoring to improve COVID-19 prevention strategies.

Histamine H3 receptors (H3Rs) are known to modulate neurotransmitter release in the nervous system, but their role in cardiac injury remains unclear. The present study aimed to investigate the cardioprotective role of H3Rs in a mouse model of myocardial injury. Forty BALB/c male mice were divided into four groups: Control (SF), Isoproterenol (ISO), Imetit (IMT), and IMT + ISO.

Article Synopsis
  • Cardiovascular disease (CVD) significantly affects people living with HIV (PLWH), with this study finding a diagnosed CVD prevalence of 10.8% among 1425 participants aged 40-75.
  • The assessment utilized five different risk evaluation tools, revealing that 42.8% of participants had a high 10-year risk of CVD, while 71.7% were classified as high- to very high-risk using the SCORE2 tool.
  • The findings stress the need for better cardiovascular health monitoring and highlighted that current utilization of lipid-lowering therapy is inadequate, despite a large number of PLWH being eligible for such treatment per recent guidelines.

The spatiotemporal pattern of surface displacements from large earthquakes provides crucial insights about the deformation of Earth's crust at various scales and the interactions among tectonic plates. However, the lack of extensive and large-scale geodetic networks near such seismic events hinders our thorough understanding of the large-scale crustal deformation resulting from earthquakes. Using Türkiye's extensive and continuous global navigation satellite system (GNSS) network during the moment magnitude 7.

  • * Results show that TAPP had a significantly shorter operative time (58 mins) and hospital stay (1.07 days) than TEP (93 mins and 1.36 days).
  • * Although TAPP had fewer complications and no conversions to open surgery, it did have rare intraoperative issues, indicating it may be the more efficient option overall.
