Objectives: A multicentre European randomized control trial - European Uncomplicated Type B Aortic Repair (EU-TBAR) is being developed to compare pre-emptive TEVAR with custom-made devices vs conventional OMT. The pre-trial set-up is confluent on different pillars, including evaluation of 1) European activity, trends, and governance, 2) outcome reporting, and 3) cost evaluation. This article aimed to demonstrate the observational cross-sectional survey results from participating centres and highlight the risk assessment, activity, practices, and governance of uncomplicated type B aortic dissection (uTBAD).

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore how pelvic obliquity affects trunk control, spinal deformity, and motor functions in non-ambulatory patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy aged 8-18 years.
  • A total of 21 participants were evaluated using various scales and tools to measure upper extremity function, spinal deformity, and general motor performance.
  • Results showed a strong link between pelvic obliquity and spinal deformity, suggesting that pelvic obliquity can worsen spinal health and motor function, especially in patients with joint issues and prolonged wheelchair use.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined the serum levels of various proteins related to myelin and inflammation in children with ADHD compared to healthy controls, focusing on their connection to clinical severity and irritability.
  • Researchers included 141 ADHD children aged 8-14 and 135 typical controls, measuring protein levels using specific assays and assessing behaviors with standardized scales.
  • Results indicated significantly higher levels of certain proteins (MAG, CDNF, hs-CRP, reelin, cerebellin) in ADHD children, alongside increased irritability, and noted significant correlations between some protein levels and clinical symptoms of ADHD and related disorders.

Background: Hallux valgus is a deformity characterized by lateral deviation of the big toe and medial deviation of the first metatarsal, causing difficulty in walking and requiring various treatments. Despite its multifactorial etiology, the role of the tibialis anterior tendon in hallux valgus and its variations in the morphology of tibialis anterior tendon distal insertion sites have not been fully explored. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of such variations on hallux valgus using magnetic resonance imaging.

BCR::ABL1-negative myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) pose a substantial risk of thrombosis, leading to significant morbidity and mortality. Anticoagulant therapy, historically based on vitamin K antagonists (VKAs), has limitations in preventing recurrent thrombotic events and managing bleeding complications. Direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) offer a potential alternative with improved pharmacokinetics and compliance.

Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) research, particularly in image processing technologies, have shown promising applications across various domains, including health care. There is a significant effort to use AI for the early diagnosis and detection of diseases, offering cost-effective and timely solutions to enhance patient outcomes. This study introduces a deep learning network aimed at analyzing pathology images for the accurate diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, specifically pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC).

Article Synopsis
  • Bilateral distal clavicle fractures (BDCF), particularly of Neer type II, are rare injuries, prompting this study to explore surgical treatment through a case report.
  • A patient involved in a motor vehicle accident showed significant pain and deformity in both shoulders but had no neurological or vascular issues elsewhere.
  • The surgery involved using a neutral-angled hook plate for both clavicles, and by the 12th week post-op, X-rays indicated full healing with no restrictions in shoulder movement.

Aim: To investigate changes in nitric oxide (NO) levels, oxidative stress, and dynamic thiol/disulphide homeostasis in the serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhages (aSAH).

Material And Methods: This prospective study included a total of 40 consecutive patients suffering from aSAH, who were operated on within the first 48 hours from onset of symptoms; CSF and blood samples were collected from these patients during their operations. To create a control group, blood samples and cerebrospinal fluid were taken from patients (n=40) without neurologic disorders who had undergone lumbar puncture for spinal anesthesia.

Aim: To retrospectively evaluate the cranial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features and determine the incidence of intracranial arachnoid cysts (ACs) based on sex, age, location, size, affected side, Galassi type, and their association with hydrocephalus, mega cisterna magna (MCM), bone erosion, and midline brain shift in 15,108 patients during outpatient headache evaluations.

Material And Methods: Between 2012 and 2022, cranial MRI scans of 15,108 adult patients aged 20-70 years undergoing outpatient evaluations for headaches were retrospectively reviewed to analyze the features of ACs detected incidentally. Patients who had previously undergone a craniotomy or craniectomy were excluded from the study.

Article Synopsis
  • This study details the creation and stabilization of layered structures made from a random copolymer (PiPOX-PEI) and tannic acid using a technique called layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly, with further enhancement through cross-linking using sodium periodate (NaIO).
  • The multilayers were evaluated for their capability to release two cancer drugs, curcumin (CUR) and doxorubicin (DOX), noting that cross-linking favored DOX release while pH and temperature influenced how these drugs were released.
  • The study found that while the combination of DOX and CUR had a synergistic effect on cell death, this effect diminished in cross-linked multilayers, indicating that the method of drug release

Mutations in VPS13B, a member of a protein family implicated in bulk lipid transport between adjacent membranes, cause Cohen syndrome. VPS13B is known to be concentrated in the Golgi complex, but its precise location within this organelle and thus the site(s) where it achieves lipid transport remains unclear. Here, we show that VPS13B is localized at the interface between proximal and distal Golgi subcompartments and that Golgi complex reformation after Brefeldin A (BFA)-induced disruption is delayed in VPS13B KO cells.
