Can predictive factors determine the time to treatment initiation for oral and oropharyngeal cancer? A classification and regression tree analysis.

This ecological study aimed to identify the factors with the greatest power to discriminate the proportion of oral and oropharyngeal cancer (OOC) records with time to treatment initiation (TTI) within 30 days of diagnosis in Brazilian municipalities. A descriptive analysis was performed on the variables grouped into five dimensions related to patient characteristics, access to health services, support for cancer diagnosis, human resources, and socioeconomic characteristics of 3,218 Brazilian municipalities that registered at least one case of OOC in 2019. The Classification and Regression Trees (CART) technique was adopted to identify the explanatory variables with greater discriminatory power for the TTI response variable.

Background: Partial hepatectomy is a surgical intervention of the liver that can trigger its regenerative process, where the residual lobes deflagrate a compensatory hyperplasia, causing its restoration almost to the original volume. Nevertheless, depending on the extent of liver damage its regeneration might be impaired. The low-power laser has been studied with beneficial results.

IL17RA gene variants and anti-TNF response among psoriasis patients.

Polymorphisms at genes encoding proteins involved in the pathogenesis of psoriasis (Psor) or in the mechanism of action of biological drugs could influence the treatment response. Because the interleukin (IL)-17 family has a central role in the pathogenesis of Psor, we hypothesized that IL17RA variants could influence the response to anti-TNF drugs among Psor patients. To address this issue we performed a cross-sectional study of Psor patients who received the biological treatments for the first time, with a follow-up of at least 6 months.

Report of the procedure of voluntary interruption of pregnancy at a university hospital in Uruguay.

Objective: To describe the constitution and operation of a voluntary interruption of pregnancy team of a university hospital, from the outlook of the mental health team.

Methods: In this case study, the following aspects were analyzed: 1) historical background; 2) implementation of Law 18,897 of October 22, 2012; and 3) functioning of the program at the Hospital de Clínicas of the Facultad de Medicina (Universidad de la República, Uruguay), taking into account three dimensions: structure, process, and results.

Results: Between December 2012 and November 2013, a total of 6,676 voluntary interruptions of pregnancy were reported in Uruguay; out of these, 80 were conducted at the Hospital de Clínicas.

Social Representations of Gynecologic Cancer Screening Assessment a Qualitative research on Ecuadorian women.

The purpose of this work was to explore: knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs regarding gynecologic cancer screening on Ecuadorian women users of primary care facilities, to identify the social representations that users of health services make about these programs and their influence on the decision to undergo a screening. An exploratory and qualitative research design was held using focus groups and in-depth interviews for data collection. A narrative content analysis of the results was conducted.

Fructose-induced metabolic syndrome decreases protein expression and activity of intestinal P-glycoprotein.

Objectves: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a health disorder that increases the risk for cardiovascular complications such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Some drugs used in patients with MetS are substrates of intestinal P-glycoprotein (P-gp), one of the most important efflux pumps that limit the absorption of xenobiotics. Thus, their bioavailability could be affected by changes in this transporter.
