Indiscriminate disposal of dry cell battery (DCB) waste contributes to environmental and public health issues in developing countries such as Ghana, due to the toxic nature of this specific waste. Accordingly, a study was conducted in Accra, Ghana, to determine the socio-economic and demographic factors influencing handling DCB waste, aiming a sustainable environment. Using a random sampling technique, a descriptive cross-sectional survey was conducted, encompassing 367 respondents from the Accra-Tema Metropolitan areas and Tema West Municipal Assembly in Greater Accra, Ghana.

The synthesis of photocatalysts with high charge separation and transfer efficiency are of immense significance in the process of using photocatalysis technology for wastewater treatment. In this study core shell g-CN@ZnO, and ZnO defects photocatalysts presented an improved morphology in its characterization using techniques such as SEM, DRS, PL, MS, EIS, and XRD, and enhanced photodegradation of sulfamethoxazole, Nitenpyram and Tetracycline. Different composites were obtained as confirmed by the various characterization techniques studied, including core shell g-CN@ZnO, and ZnO defects photocatalyst.

The intensity of emerging pollutants such as pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) in the aquatic and terrestrial environment is a major source of concern to researchers. The current conventional methods of wastewater treatment plants are considered not efficient enough in the complete removal of the recalcitrant contaminants from water. The use of modified transition metals in visible responsive synthesis to degrade PPCPs and other pollutants (organic and inorganic) is considered as a developing green chemistry and sustainable technology.
