Objective: To study the morphology of canine and feline femurs and tibias in lateral radiographic projections and assess their compatibility with either a straight or a curved full-length interlocking nail (ILN).
Methods: Lateral projection radiographs of 50 tibias and 50 femurs (10 cats and 40 dogs per bone) were used to measure the minimum and maximum radius of curvature of an ILN compatible with each bone. These radii were defined by cranial and caudal endosteal points at the proximal entry point of the nail, at the isthmus, and at the most distal point of the ILN insertion into the femoral or tibial metaphysis.
Background: Persistent uroliths after a cystotomy in dogs are a common cause of surgical failure.
Objectives: This study examined the following: the success rate of retrograde urohydropropulsion in male dogs using non-enhanced computed tomography (CT), whether the CT mean beam attenuation values in Hounsfield Units (mHU) measured could predict the urolithiasis composition and whether the selected reconstruction kernel may influence the measured mHU.
Methods: All dogs and cats that presented with lower urinary tract uroliths and had a non-enhanced CT preceding surgery were included.
Introduction: The transcriptional activity of the UGT1A1 gene is modulated by a variable number of repetitions of the dinucleotide (TA) within its promoter region. By comparison to the most common allele (TA) (UGT1A1*1), decreased activity is observed with increasing TA repetitions. The aim of this study was to determine whether the presence of the variant allele UGT1A1*28, harbouring seven TA repetitions, (TA), in the homozygous state, is associated with precancerous colonic lesions and/or with specific colorectal cancer characteristics.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAcute pancreatitis is a frequent pathology with 11,000 to 13,000 new cases per year in France. A biliary origin (30 to 70% of the cases) should be suspected when alanine amino-transferases are elevated during the first 48 hours, and it is confirmed by the presence of gallstones at trans abdominal ultrasound. Abdominal computed-tomography scan is performed around the fifth day, and is repeated according to clinical and biological evolution.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of TC-325 in a large prospective registry of use in routine practice. The data of all patients treated with TC-325 were prospectively collected through a national registry.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground And Aims: Anal fistula plug [AFP] is a bioabsorbable bioprosthesis used in ano-perineal fistula treatment. We aimed to assess efficacy and safety of AFP in fistulising ano-perineal Crohn's disease [FAP-CD].
Methods: In a multicentre, open-label, randomised controlled trial we compared seton removal alone [control group] with AFP insertion [AFP group] in 106 Crohn's disease patients with non- or mildly active disease having at least one ano-perineal fistula tract drained for more than 1 month.
Background And Aims: Closing the internal opening by a clip ovesco has been recently proposed for healing the fistula tract, but, to date, data on benefit are poorly analyzed. The aim was to report a preliminary multicenter experience.
Materials And Methods: Retrospective study was undertaken in six different French centers: surgical procedure, immediate complications, and follow-up have been collected.
Objective: Carbohydrate-deficient transferrin has been proposed to be useful in evaluating alcohol consumption but there is no consensus on its use in routine practice. The aim of this retrospective study was to compare carbohydrate-deficient transferrin and gammaglutamyl transpeptidase assays for the evaluation of alcohol consumption.
Methods: Six hundred thirty-three outpatients attending one outpatient care center were included in this study.
