Background:  It has been suggested that the presence of chronic immunoinflammatory rheumatic disease (CIRD) may be a factor that increases the likelihood of developing hypogonadism syndrome, and conversely, the presence of uncompensated testosterone deficiency may predispose to a greater risk of developing or more severe course of ICRD.

Aim:  To study the incidence of hypogonadism in men with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and evaluate its impact on the course of RA and concomitant diseases.

Materials And Methods:  A one-time continuous study included 170 men with RA who were undergoing inpatient treatment at the Federal State Budgetary Institution NIIR named after.

The possibilities of modern therapy for systemic sclerosis (SSc) remains limited, since most of the used drugs do not have a disease-modifying effect. This encourages the study of new approaches that potentially affect the fundamental pathological processes underlying the disease. One example is anti-B-cell therapy, in particular rituximab (RTX).

Rituximab (RTX) has been used for the treatment of systemic sclerosis (SSс) for a long time and has shown good efficacy for skin fibrosis and interstitial lung disease (ILD). However, data on tolerability and long-term adverse events (AEs) during RTX therapy in SSc are insufficient. The objective of this study was to assess the tolerability and safety of RTX in patients with SSс in a long-term prospective follow-up.

The objective of the study was to analyze whether axial psoriatic arthritis (axPsA) patients meet classification criteria for axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) and ankylosing spondylitis (AS). A total of 104 patients (66 men and 38 women) with PsA according to CASPAR criteria were examined, all patients had back pain. Patients were evaluated for presence of inflammatory back pain (IBP) by ASAS criteria.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to examine the prevalence of hypogonadism (HG) in men with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), ankylosing spondylitis (AS), and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) while also assessing its effects on these conditions.
  • It involved 312 male participants who were evaluated for testosterone levels and compared across various clinical measures related to their rheumatic diseases.
  • Results indicated varying rates of testosterone deficiency—24.1% in RA, 17.5% in AS, and 31.8% in PsA—with HG linked to higher body mass index and metabolic indicators, but without significant differences in testosterone and hormone levels across the rheumatic disease groups.

This pilot study examined the long-term structural changes in the osteochondral unit of 20 patients with knee osteoarthritis (KOA) who underwent high tibial osteotomy (HTO) and received post-treatment with either platelet-rich plasma (PRP) or stromal vascular fraction (SVF). Ten patients were injected with autologous PRP (PRP subgroup), while another ten patients received autologous SVF (SVF subgroup) six weeks after surgery and were monitored for 18 months. Histological samples of bone and cartilage (2 mm in diameter and 2 cm long) were taken from tibial and femoral sites during surgery and 18-month post-HTO, and morphometric analyses were conducted using Mega-Morf12 software.

Unlabelled: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is characterized by low-grade inflammation, loss of articular cartilage, subchondral bone remodeling, synovitis, osteophyte formation, and pain. Strong, continuous pain may indicate the need for joint replacement in patients with end-stage OA, although postoperative pain (POP) of at least a two-month duration persists in 10-40% of patients with OA.

Study Purpose: The inflammation observed in joint tissues is linked to pain caused by the production of proinflammatory cytokines.

Background: The clinical and serologic heterogeneity of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) presents challenges for diagnosis, particularly in the earliest stages of the disease when there are insufficient signs to make a reliable diagnosis.

Aim: To make a comparative assessment of sensitivity and specificity of various classification criteria of SLE on a cohort of patients of Nasonova Research Institute of Rheumatology.

Materials And Methods: A total of 252 patients were included in the study; 152 (60%) of 252 patients had reliable SLE (mean age 36 [29.

Aim: To develop an integral index of psoriatic arthritis (PsA) activity.

Materials And Methods: 117 patients with PsA (M/F - 63/54) were included. Patients' age 44±11 years, psoriasis (Ps) duration - 213±153 months, PsA duration - 73.

Aim: To evaluate the detection rate of subclinical carotid atherosclerosis in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients with low cardiovascular risk (CVR).

Materials And Methods: The study included 182 RA patients with low CVR (mSCORE<1%) and no established cardiovascular diseases and a control group comprising 100 people. Atherosclerotic lesion of the carotid arteries was assessed using Doppler ultrasound of the carotid arteries and was determined by the detection of atherosclerotic plaque (ASP) - the local increase in the thickness of the intima-media complex (IMT) >1.

Plasmonic core-satellite nanostructures have recently attracted interest in photocatalytic applications. The core plasmonic nanoparticle acts like an antenna, funnelling incident light into the near-field region, where it excites the smaller satellite nanoparticles with resonantly enhanced absorption. Computer simulations of the optical absorption by such structures can prove challenging, even with state-of-the-art numerical methods, due to the large difference in size between core and satellite particles.

The role of antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL), which are not included in the Sydney diagnostic criteria, in antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is poorly understood. The aim of this study was to determine the clinical significance of IgG antibodies for domain 1 of β-glycoprotein 1 (β-GP1), IgG anti-β-GP1DI, in patients with APS with and without SLE. The study included 187 patients with APS with or without SLE, 49 patients formed the comparison group, and 100 apparently healthy individuals formed the control group.

It is assumed that the risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in patients with gout is influenced by both generally accepted risk factors and factors related to gout. The aim of the study was to evaluate the impact of various risk factors for T2DM in patients with gout. A total of 444 patients (49 women, 395 men) ≥18 years old with gout and without DM were included.

Functional outcomes and synovial fluid (SF) cytokine concentrations in response to platelet-rich plasma (PRP) or stromal vascular fraction (SVF) post-treatments following open wedge high tibial osteotomy (HTO) in 20 patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA) were examined. Six weeks after surgery, the knees of 10 patients were injected with autologous PRP (PRP subgroup), while another 10 patients were injected with autologous SVF (SVF subgroup) and monitored for 1.5 years.

Alginate hydrogels with embedded rigid percolating network of halloysite clay nanotubes were evaluated as a novel ink for 3D printing. Hydrophilic alginate macromolecules adsorbing on halloysite stabilize the network of the nanotubes and form their own network of interlaced polymer chains. The effect of halloysite content on the structure and properties of the hydrogels was studied by rheometry, thermogravimetric analysis, FTIR-spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, transmission electron microscopy, and 3D cryo-electron microscopy.

Rapidly growing 3D printing of hydrogels requires network materials which combine enhanced mechanical properties and printability. One of the most promising approaches to strengthen the hydrogels consists of the incorporation of inorganic fillers. In this paper, the rheological properties important for 3D printability were studied for nanocomposite hydrogels based on a rigid network of percolating halloysite nanotubes embedded in a soft alginate network cross-linked by calcium ions.
