Ascorbic Acid (AA) has been used in the prevention and treatment of cancer with reported effectiveness. Mitochondria may be one of the principal targets of ascorbate's cellular activity and it may play an important role in the development and progression of cancer. Mitochondria, besides generating adenosine triphosphate (ATP), has a role in apoptosis regulation and in the production of regulatory oxidative species that may be relevant in gene expression.

Synopsis of recent research by authors named "Glorivee Rosario-Perez"

  • * The 2010 article titled "Mitochondria, Energy and Cancer: The Relationship with Ascorbic Acid" explores how ascorbic acid may target mitochondria, which are crucial for ATP production, apoptosis regulation, and the generation of oxidative species that influence gene expression.
  • * Findings suggest that ascorbic acid could be pivotal in understanding cancer biology, indicating its importance in mitochondrial function and its potential role in cancer progression and treatment strategies.
