Background: Pregabalin (PGB) has been shown to improve sleep quality and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) as well as pain intensity in patients with neuropathic pain.

Objective: The objective of the study was to explore the magnitude of the correlations between changes in pain intensity, sleep quality, and HRQoL after PGB treatment.

Methods: One hundred thirty-eight patients with neuropathic pain of any origin and without an adequate response to analgesics received an 8-week treatment course of PGB in an open-label fashion.

The CTLA4 molecule is a homolog for CD28, and both molecules and their common ligands (CD80 and CD86) constitute the B7/CD28-CTLA4 co-stimulatory pathway for T cells activation. The CTLA4-ligand interaction has an inhibitory effect on T cell activation and might contribute to peripheral tolerance. A recently described CT60 A/G polymorphism affects the production of soluble CTLA4 and is strongly associated with immune-mediated diseases and with allogenic stem cell transplantation outcome.

Paraquat (PQ) toxicity produces severe injures in many major organs systems, including kidney, developing renal failure with fatal evolution in most of the cases. Several antidotes have been used in the treatment of paraquat intoxication without satisfactory results. The antioxidative effect of melatonin (MLT) and sodium thiosulphate (STS) on kidney in rats with acute intoxication by PQ was studied.

Eight Triatoma dimidiata populations from different geographic regions were compared along with related species using traditional morphometry of head characters. A method for removing allometric change was used for the intraspecific comparisons, and scaling for the isometric change of size was used for the interspecific comparisons. The intraspecific comparison showed significant head shape differences between T.

Capillary gas-liquid chromatography was used to analyse the cuticular hydrocarbons of three triatomine species, Triatoma dimidiata, T. barberi and Dipetalogaster maxima, domestic vectors of Chagas disease in Mexico. Mixtures of saturated hydrocarbons of straight and methyl-branched chains were characteristic of the three species, but quantitatively different.
