We evaluated immune cell frequencies in peripheral blood samples of 41 NSCLC patients before and after second-line therapy with anti-PD-1/PD-L1 agents. Changes in lymphocyte subsets and their correlation with clinical response, progression-free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS) were analyzed. In Ph- myeloproliferative neoplasms, the quantification of the JAK2V617F transcripts may provide some advantages over the DNA allele burden determination. We developed a q-RT-PCR to assess the JAK2WT and JAK2V617F mRNA expression in 105 cases (23 donors, 13 secondary polycythemia, 22 polycythemia vera (PV), 38 essential thrombocythemia (ET), and 9 primary myelofibrosis (PMF)). Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) is involved in the progression of lymphomas through still unknown mechanism involving increased resistance to induced apoptosis. We show here that in a set of apoptosis-resistant EBV-converted Burkitt's lymphoma clones, 5- and 12-lipoxygenases (LOXs) are over-expressed. Further investigations on 5-LOX showed that resistance to apoptosis increases parallely with the expression of 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX).

Several hematopoietic growth factors, including interleukin-10 (IL-10) and transforming growth factor-beta1 (TGF-beta1), promote the differentiation of tolerogenic dendritic cells (DCs). Hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) is a pleiotropic cytokine whose effects on human DC differentiation and function have not been investigated. Monocytes cultured with HGF (HGFMo) differentiated into accessory cells with DC-like morphology, released low amounts of IL-12p70 and up-regulated IL-10 both at the mRNA and at the protein level.

We investigated the ability of fatty acids to induce growth inhibition and apoptosis in the human PaCa-44 pancreatic cancer cell line and the mechanism(s) underlying apoptosis. Butyric acid, alpha-linoleic acid, and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) were supplemented at 200 microM concentration in the medium of cell cultures. Our results showed that all fatty acids inhibited cell growth, whereas only DHA induced cell apoptosis.
