Transgenic mice expressing human non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug activated gene 1 (NAG-1) have less adipose tissue, improved insulin sensitivity, lower insulin levels and are resistant to dietary induced obesity. The hNAG-1 expressing mice are more metabolically active with a higher energy expenditure. This study investigates female reproduction in the hNAG-1 transgenic mice and finds the female mice are fertile but have reduced pup survival after birth.

This study investigated if hNAG-1 increases lifespan in mice and its potential mechanisms. Here we report that female hNAG-1 mice had significantly increased both mean and median life spans in two transgenic lines, with a larger difference in life spans in mice on a HFD than on low fat diet.

In a 90-day toxicity study following Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Guideline #408, male and female Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed to 0 (control), 0.5, 1.

Background: Studies published in the 1970s by Mostafa S. Fahim and colleagues showed that a short treatment with ultrasound caused the depletion of germ cells and infertility. The goal of the current study was to determine if a commercially available therapeutic ultrasound generator and transducer could be used as the basis for a male contraceptive.

For carcinogens whose proposed mode of action is cytolethality, it is hypothesized that the dose-response curve for tumor development would parallel the dose-response curve for cell death with compensatory proliferation in the target organ. To prospectively test this hypothesis, female B6C3F(1) mice were exposed to furan at carcinogenic doses and lower for 3 weeks or 2 years.

Appropriate animal models would increase the understanding of the pathophysiology of thrombosis. We previously reported that rats exposed to 2-butoxyethanol (2-BE) developed hemolytic anemia and disseminated thrombosis resembling sickle cell disease and beta-thalassemia.

The current study was conducted to ascertain whether a dietary restriction regime would similarly reduce lesion development if imposed once tumor development was well established. Male TRAMP mice were maintained on an ad libitum diet until 20 weeks of age when proliferative prostate lesions are clearly evident.

However, one study (Ng et al., 1999) reported a significant increase in tumor incidence in C57Bl/6J mice exposed to arsenic in their drinking water throughout their lifetime, with no tumors reported in controls.

PSA is used as a well-established marker of prostate cancer. The involvement of PSA in several early events leading to the development of malignant prostate tumors has made it a target for prevention and intervention.

Severity of proliferative lesions was divided into 6 categories; the grade of the most advanced lesion was identified for each lobe and its distribution estimated semiquantitatively. A numerical score combining grade and distribution of the most advanced lesion in each lobe was assigned and termed the "distribution-adjusted lesion grade"; the mean of these scores was calculated for each treatment group.
