Study Design: Retrospective case series.

Animals: A total of 15 client owned dogs and two cats with 57 metabone fractures.

Clozapine and neutrophil response in patients of African descent: A six-month, multinational, prospective, open-label clinical trial.

Introduction: Clozapine is the most effective antipsychotic for treatment-resistant schizophrenia, but it is markedly underutilized, particularly in the US Black population, partly because of concern over clozapine-associated low absolute neutrophil count (ANC). People of African descent have a lower normative ANC range than the White population, which is associated with a specific "ACKR1-null" ("Duffy null") CC genotype (SNP rs2814778) on the ACKR1 gene, termed benign ethnic neutropenia (BEN). The range of ANC variability and safety of clozapine have not been established in people with BEN or examined prospectively in people of African descent.

The Use of a Medical Center-Based Outpatient Breastfeeding Support Program with Telelactation to Provide Ongoing Breastfeeding Support to a Diverse Patient Population.

Patients from low-income, minoritized communities have limited access to outpatient breastfeeding support with International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs). Telelactation may increase access particularly when appointments can be self-scheduled. To describe a medical center-based, outpatient breastfeeding support program that includes telelactation and serves a diverse patient population.

Social Network Analysis as a Cybernetic Modelling Facility for Participatory Design in Technology-Supported College Curricula.

Despite iterative learning design being increasingly implemented, such approaches are often delineated by well-defined periods of design/implementation. However, second-order cybernetics, which suggests a participatory approach to learning design, involves responsively adapting learning environments to meet students' needs, treating them as agentic participants in the classroom. In our mixed methods study, we investigate whether such a process can facilitate egalitarian participation and collaborative interactions in a technology-assisted classroom.

Impact of Breastfeeding Support Services on Mothers' Breastfeeding Experiences When Provided by an MD/IBCLC in the Pediatric Medical Home.

Addressing breastfeeding issues enables mothers to reach their breastfeeding goals. We embedded a breastfeeding consultation service run by a pediatrician/International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (MD/IBCLC) in a medical home. This mixed-methods study investigated breastfeeding preparedness and the service's perceived benefits.

Anti-aggressive effects of clozapine in involuntarily committed black patients with severe mental illness.

Introduction: Patients with severe mental illness are falsely characterized as aggressive by the media, perpetuating stigma. While exaggerated, some patients with severe mental illness are more aggressive without treatment. Clozapine may have a unique anti-aggressive effect in patients with schizophrenia-related disorders, independent of antipsychotic or sedative effects.

Association of acute psychosocial stress with oxidative stress: Evidence from serum analysis.

Growing evidence implicates an association between psychosocial stress and oxidative stress (OxSt) although there are not yet reliable biomarkers to study this association. We used a Trier Social Stress Test (TSST) and compared the response of a healthy control group (HC; N=10) against the response of a schizophrenia group (SCZ; N=10) that is expected to have higher levels of OxSt. Because our previous study showed inconsistent changes in conventional molecular markers for stress responses in the neuroendocrine and immune systems, we analyzed the same serum samples using a separate reducing capacity assay that provides a more global measurement of OxSt.

Shaping classroom social experiences through collaborative small-group discussions.

Background: Students form interpersonal and intrapersonal classroom social experiences with peers. While diverse intervention programmes have been developed, few have integrated social-emotional learning into academic activities to maximize the potential for learning and development.

Aims: This study examined the effects of collaborative small-group discussions on students' classroom social experiences at the interpersonal and intrapersonal levels.

Managing the COVID-19 Pandemic Using Quality Improvement Principles: A New York City Pediatric Primary Care Experience.

Unlabelled: In the setting of COVID-19, pediatric primary care in New York City faced multiple challenges, requiring large-scale practice reorganization. We used quality improvement principles to implement changes to care delivery rapidly.

Methods: Plan-do-study-act cycles were used, based on primary drivers of consolidation, reorganization of in-person and urgent care, telehealth expansion, patient outreach, mental health linkages, team communication, and safety.

Comparison of classic and needle arthroscopy to diagnose canine medial shoulder instability: 31 cases.

This retrospective study compared surgery time, anesthesia time, and costs recorded with classic arthroscopy or needle arthroscopy when diagnosing canine medial shoulder instability. Signalment, examination findings, diagnostics, anesthesia time, surgery time, treatment, invoices, and complications were reported. All cases (classic arthroscopy, 14 cases; needle arthroscopy, 17 cases) were diagnosed with medial shoulder instability.

Feasibility and patient-reported satisfaction using a novel point-of-care fingerstick method for monitoring absolute neutrophil count for clozapine.

Background: Clozapine is an effective antipsychotic for treatment-resistant schizophrenia. One limitation of clozapine use is required monitoring of absolute neutrophil count (ANC) because of the risk of clozapine-induced neutropenia. Standard monitoring requires venous blood draws, which is a significant barrier to clozapine use.

Relationship-Centered Care in a Novel Dual-Visit Model COVID Nursery Follow-Up Clinic.

The COVID Nursery Follow-Up Clinic at our academic medical center in New York City was established during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide care to infants born to SARS-CoV-2 positive mothers. We describe a novel dual-visit model utilizing telehealth and an in-person visit to provide timely, inclusive and relationship-centered care to the mother/infant couplet in a situation where the mother was unable to come to a traditional in-person visit, but the infant needed medically necessary in-person evaluation.

Tibial Apophyseal Percutaneous Pinning in Skeletally Immature Dogs: 25 Cases (2016-2019).

Objective:  The aim of this study was to report the clinical experience with fluoroscopically guided tibial apophyseal percutaneous pinning (TAPP) for tibial tuberosity avulsion fractures (TTAF).

Study Design:  This is a retrospective case series.

Materials And Methods:  Medical records of skeletally immature dogs ( = 25) were reviewed.

Outcomes of Neonates Born to Mothers With Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 Infection at a Large Medical Center in New York City.

Importance: Limited data on vertical and perinatal transmission of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and health outcomes of neonates born to mothers with symptomatic or asymptomatic coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are available. Studies are needed to inform evidence-based infection prevention and control (IP&C) policies.

Objective: To describe the outcomes of neonates born to mothers with perinatal SARS-CoV-2 infection and the IP&C practices associated with these outcomes.

Newborn Clinic: A Novel Model to Provide Timely, Comprehensive Care to Newborns Following Nursery Discharge.

Ensuring safe and timely follow-up after well baby nursery (WBN) discharge is an ongoing challenge. This study demonstrates the efficacy of a novel model for follow-up, the Newborn Clinic (NBC), in reducing time to outpatient follow-up after WBN discharge. Our retrospective chart review of 17 952 newborns found that time to follow-up visit decreased significantly following NBC establishment.

A review of newborn outcomes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread worldwide, it is crucial that we determine populations that are at-risk and develop appropriate clinical care policies to protect them. While several respiratory illnesses are known to seriously impact pregnant women and newborns, preliminary data on the novel SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus suggest that these groups are no more at-risk than the general population. Here, we review the available literature on newborns born to infected mothers and show that newborns of mothers with positive/suspected SARS-CoV-2 infection rarely acquire the disease or show adverse clinical outcomes.

Pulmonary artery banding in a kitten with a partial atrioventricular septal defect.

A 9-month-old kitten with increased resting respiratory rate and exercise intolerance was diagnosed with a congenital partial atrioventricular septal defect causing pulmonary over circulation and presumed pulmonary hypertension based on echocardiogram. Invasive pressure measurements and contrast angiography confirmed this diagnosis. The cat underwent pulmonary artery banding under general anesthesia.

Peripheral Cortisol and Inflammatory Response to a Psychosocial Stressor in People with Schizophrenia.

Objectives: There is growing evidence of both hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and immune system dysfunction in schizophrenia. Additionally, accumulating evidence has linked dysfunction in the kynurenine pathway to schizophrenia as well as to stress and inflammation. The current pilot tested changes in immune, cortisol and kynurenine and kynurenic acid responses to a psychosocial stressor in people with schizophrenia and healthy controls.

Results of a survey of Veterinary Orthopedic Society members on the preferred method for treating cranial cruciate ligament rupture in dogs weighing more than 15 kilograms (33 pounds).

Structure and rheology of dual-associative protein hydrogels under nonlinear shear flow.

Dual-associative protein di- and triblock copolymers composed of sticker-decorated midblocks and micelle-forming elastin-like polypeptide (ELP) endblocks form shear-thinning, thermoresponsively reinforceable hydrogels that are potentially useful as injectable materials for a variety of applications. Here, the combination of rheological and in situ scattering measurements under shear on these dual-associative gels is employed in order to better understand how block architecture plays a role in controlling microscopic structural rearrangement and the resulting macroscopic mechanical responses. These gels, which form a disordered sphere phase due to endblock aggregation under quiescent conditions with the midblock domains physically crosslinked by protein associations, exhibit both viscoelastic and thixotropic signatures with relative magnitudes dependent upon gel concentration and block architecture.

Structure-Activity Relationships of New Natural Product-Based Diaryloxazoles with Selective Activity against Androgen Receptor-Positive Breast Cancer Cells.

Targeted therapies for ER+/PR+ and HER2-amplified breast cancers have improved patient survival, but there are no therapies for triple negative breast cancers (TNBC) that lack expression of estrogen and progesterone receptors (ER/PR), or amplification or overexpression of HER2. Gene expression profiling of TNBC has identified molecular subtypes and representative cell lines. An extract of the Texas native plant Amyris texana was found to have selective activity against MDA-MB-453 cells, a model of the luminal androgen receptor (LAR) subtype of TNBC.

Clozapine in Reducing Aggression and Violence in Forensic Populations.

Popular media often portray people with a mental illness as being aggressive, violent, and incarcerated as a result of their behavior. Despite exaggeration in the media, risks for some aggressive behaviors are in fact higher in individuals with schizophrenia. This is often the case with influence of comorbid substance use disorders.

Percutaneous tibial physeal fracture repair in small animals: technique and 17 cases.

Objectives: To retrospectively describe cases treated via percutaneous tibial physeal fracture repair (PTPFR), using intra-operative fluoroscopy (IFL) or digital radiography (DR). To describe a technique ("spiking"), used to treat tibial tuberosity avulsion fractures.
