Prostatic binding protein, polyamine, and DNA synthesis in rat ventral prostate cells.

Prostatic binding protein (PBP), polyamine, and DNA synthesis were examined in primary cultures of rat ventral prostate cells. Soon after aggregates of prostate cells were placed in culture, PBP synthesis fell dramatically and DNA synthetic activity in the epithelial cells increased. The amount of polyamines that were labeled with [3H] from [3H] ornithine fell transiently, but rose again at or before the peak of DNA synthesis.

Properties of two follicle proteins and their possible role for vitellogenesis in the African Locust.

Insoluble proteins from the maturing follicle ofLocusta migratoria were analyzed by SDS-PAGE. A reproducible pattern of low molecular weight proteins was observed. Five of these proteins did not correspond to yolk or haemolymph proteins.

Isolation, culture and characterization of epithelial cells derived from rat ventral prostate.

Epithelial-cell enriched primary cultures have been established from rat ventral prostate (RVP). Minced ventral prostates were dissociated with 0.5% collagenase in F12K tissue culture medium containing 1% fetal bovine serum.

Immunohistochemical localisation of ecdysteroids in the follicular epithelium of locust oocytes.

Frozen sections of growing terminal follicles of the locust ovary were incubated with an ecdysteroid-specific rabbit antibody and the bound antibody visualised by the use of FITC-labelled goat-anti-rabbit antiserum. A bright fluorescence was seen in the cytoplasm of the follicle cells in terminal follicles with a length between 4.0 and 6.

Quantitative studies of splenic erythropoiesis in polycythaemia vera and myelofibrosis.

A quantitative scanning method employing cyclotron-produced 52Fe has been developed to assess splenic erythropoiesis in patients with myeloproliferative disorders. In 12 patients with myelofibrosis splenic uptake of 52Fe was from 5.0% to 48% of the injected dose.
