Racial, Socioeconomic, and Geographic Disparities in Preamputation Vascular Care for Patients With Chronic Limb-Threatening Ischemia.

Background: Black patients, those with low socioeconomic status (SES), and those living in rural areas have elevated rates of major lower extremity amputation, which may be related to a lack of subspecialty chronic limb-threatening ischemia care. We evaluated the association between race, rurality, SES, and preamputation vascular care.

Methods: Among patients aged 66 to 86 years with fee-for-service Medicare who underwent major lower extremity amputation for chronic limb-threatening ischemia from July 2010 to December 2019, we compared the proportion who received vascular care in the 12 months before amputation by race (Black versus White), rurality, and SES (dual eligibility for Medicaid versus no dual eligibility) using multivariable logistic regression adjusting for clinical and demographic covariates.

Qualitative research on the flipped classroom cognition of undergraduate nursing students.

Objective: To assess undergraduate nursing students' understanding of the flipped classroom model, facilitate its integration into nursing education, and support its implementation and reform.

Methods: The in-depth interview method of phenomenological research was used to interview 10 undergraduate nursing students during their course on 15 January 2024 in the classroom. The Colaizzi analysis method was employed for the data analysis.

Reduced brain network segregation in alcohol use disorder: Associations with neurocognition.

The human brain consists of functionally segregated networks, characterized by strong connections among regions belonging to the same network and weak connections between those of different networks. Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is associated with premature brain aging and neurocognitive impairments. Given the link between decreased brain network segregation and age-related cognitive decline, we hypothesized lower brain segregation in patients with AUD than healthy controls (HCs).

In molecular-dynamics simulations of fluids, the Einstein-Helfand (EH) and Green-Kubo (GK) relationships are frequently used to compute a variety of transport coefficients, including diffusion coefficients. These relationships are formally valid in the limit of infinite sampling time: The error in the estimate of a transport coefficient (relative to an infinitely long simulation) asymptotically approaches zero as more dynamics are simulated and recorded. In practice, of course, one can only simulate a finite number of particles for a finite amount of time.

Surface-engineered mesenchymal stem cell for refractory asthma therapy: Reversing airway remodeling.

In the development of asthma, subepithelial fibrosis and vascular proliferation cause airway remodeling and narrowing, leading to disease deterioration and respiratory failure. In the clinic, the treatment of asthma was aimed at reducing the frequency of acute asthma attacks through inhaled corticosteroids (ICSs). However, ICSs cannot prevent the progression into refractory asthma due to the formation of airway remodeling mainly by subepithelial fibrosis and angiogenesis surrounding the tracheal lumen.

This study elaborates the essence of distant lymph node metastasis and skip metastasis of esophageal cancer according to the membrane anatomy theory. Lymph distant metastasis of esophageal cancer is essentially the phenomenon of cancer cells shedding from the primary focus of esophageal cancer and transferring along the direction of lymphatic drainage to the root of the esophageal mesentery. Because the metastasis is relatively distant, it is called distant metastasis.

Outcomes of a Novel Single Branched Aortic Stent Graft for Treatment of Type B Aortic Dissection.

Background: Intervention on Type B dissection frequently requires landing the proximal edge of the stent graft between the left common carotid artery and left subclavian artery (LSA). The Gore® TAG® Thoracic Branch Endoprosthesis (TBE) is a technology which allows LSA preservation with a single internal branch.

Methods: This study was a prospective non-randomized single-arm clinical trial of patients with type B aortic dissection that were treated with the single branched device.

Aims: To assess whether mechanical circulatory support (MCS), including intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) or veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), can help improve neurological outcomes in patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA).

Methods: This is a retrospective observational cohort study performed in China Medical University Hospital, Taichung, Taiwan. Adult patients with OHCA admitted between January 2015 and June 2023.

We have investigated the internal structure of the open- and hidden-charmed (DD/D¯D) molecules in the unified framework. O-GlcNAcase (OGA) is implicated in several important biological and disease-relevant processes. Here, we synthesized fluorogenic probes for OGA by grafting GlcNAc directly or using a self-immolative linker to the hydroxyl position of 4-hydroxylisoindoline (BHID), a typical excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) probe. The probe was used for a fluorogenic assay to determine the half maximal inhibitory concentration of a known OGA inhibitor and differentiate between OGA and hexosaminidase when GlcNAc is replaced by GlcNPr, where a propionyl group is used instead of an acetyl group.

Lactate-to-albumin ratio and cholesterol levels predict neurological outcome in cardiac arrest survivors.

Background: Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) increases lactate levels and reduces albumin levels on admission and tends to lead to a poor neurological prognosis. In our experience, reduced cholesterol levels predict poor neurological prognosis. However, the relationship between cholesterol levels and neurological prognosis in OHCA survivors remains unclear.
