A novel approach to surgical treatment of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis in skeletally immature patients.

Purpose: Describe the surgical technique and experience using the LSZ growing system in skeletally immature patients for two-stage surgical treatment of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS).

Methods: Eleven skeletally immature patients who underwent two-stage surgical treatment of AIS in our center were retrospectively analyzed. Patients initially treated with the LSZ growing system were observed for an average of 40.

Microstructure of embolized capsule of chronic subdural hematoma.

Background: Chronic subdural hematomas (cSDHs) are frequent and potentially life-threatening neurosurgical conditions affecting, first of all, elderly. Sixteen years progress in recanalization of chronic carotid artery occlusion: A comprehensive review.

Objective: Although chronic carotid artery occlusion seems to be associated with significant risk of ischemic stroke, revascularization techniques are neither well established nor widespread. In contrast, extracranial-intracranial bypass is common despite the lack of evidence regarding neurological improvement or prevention of ischemic events. The aim of current review is to evaluate the effectiveness of various methods of recanalization of chronic carotid artery occlusion.

Giant arachnoid cyst in adult presented with secondary epileptiform activity.

Background: Current studies contain controversies regarding indications and preferable surgical techniques for arachnoid cysts.

Case Description: In this paper we present case report of giant arachnoid cyst of right frontal lobe in young left-handed adult with headache, MRI sings of brain compression and epileptiform activity on EEG, treated by microsurgical cystostomy.

Conclusion: We add a case of young adult with tension headaches and possible sub-clinical seizures due to arachnoid cyst, whose symptoms disappeared after surgical management of the cyst, including normalization of EEG.
