In this paper, an inductive wireless link for motion recognition is investigated. In order to validate the feasibility of a wearable implementation, the use of three different materials is analyzed: a thin copper wire, a conductive yarn, and a conductive non-woven fabric. Results from the application of the developed devices on an arm are reported and discussed.

The aim of this work is to propose two different and integrated sensors for the structural health monitoring of concrete beams. In particular, a diffused sensing element and a split ring resonator network are presented. The first sensor is able to detect the variations in the dielectric properties of the concrete along the whole beam length, for a diffuse monitoring both during the important concrete curing phase and also for the entire life cycle of the concrete beams.

In this work, two fully-textile wearable devices, to be used as chipless identification tags in identification and tracking applications are presented. For the fabrication of the fully-textile tags, a layer of fleece was used as a substrate, while an adhesive non-woven conductive fabric was employed for the conductive parts. To allow radio-frequency identification of these chipless tags, two alternative techniques were used.

In this paper, a frequency-signature Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) chipless tag for wearable applications is presented. The results achieved for a fully-textile solution guaranteeing a seamless integration in clothes are reported and discussed. The proposed tag consists of two planar monopole antennas and a 50 Ω microstrip line loaded with multiple resonators.

We show that assembled domains of magnetic iron-oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) are effective at increasing the dielectric permittivity of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) nanocomposites in the GHz frequency range. The assembly has been achieved by means of magnetophoretic transport and its efficacy, as well as the electromagnetic properties of the nanocomposite, has been found to depend on IONPs diameter. Remarkably, the dielectric permittivity increase has been obtained by keeping dielectric and magnetic losses very low, making us envision the suitability of nanocomposites based on aligned IONPs as substrates for radiofrequency applications.

The limited induction of spermidine/spermine N1-acetyltransferase (SSAT) activity has been implicated as an important determinant of the reduced response to the spermine analogue N1,N12-bis(ethyl)spermine (BESpm) by the cisplatin or cis-diamminedichloroplatinum(II) (cDDP)-resistant human ovarian carcinoma cell line (C13*). We checked whether or not under conditions of SSAT overexpression, enzyme induction and cell sensitivity to both, BESpm and cDDP, were restored to levels comparable with those of more responsive cDDP-sensitive 2008 cells. We transiently transfected the SSAT repressed C13* cells with two expression vectors driving human SSAT overexpression by diverse promoters.
