The evidence on how touch-based therapy acts on the brain activity opens novel cues for the treatment of chronic pain conditions for which no definitive treatment exists. Touch-based therapies, particularly those involving C-tactile (CT)-optimal touch, have gained increasing attention for their potential in modulating pain perception and improving psychological well-being. While previous studies have focused on the biomechanical effects of manual therapy, recent research has shifted towards understanding the neurophysiological mechanisms underlying these interventions.

Osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) is a hands-on therapy aiming to achieve the global homeostasis of the patient. OMT focuses on treating the somatic dysfunctions characterized by tissue modifications, body asymmetry, and range-of-motion restrictions. The benefits related to OMT are thought to be associated with the interconnectedness of the body's systems and the inherent capacity for self-healing.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate glycometabolic outcomes in AID technology-naïve T1D patients after switching to Hybrid Closed Loop (HCL) and Advanced Hybrid Closed Loop (AHCL) systems.

Research Design And Methods: This was a 12-month, prospective, observational, two-center study on 54 type 1 diabetes (T1D) patients aged 19-65 years managed with multiple daily injections (MDI) or Continuous Subcutaneous Insulin Infusion (CSII) in open-loop to evaluate the superiority in terms of effectiveness and safety of Automated Insulin Delivery (AID) systems.

Results: HbA1c levels significantly improved at the end of the study.

Introduction: The role of dapagliflozin on erectile dysfunction (ED), a condition widely affecting patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), has not yet been studied.

Aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of dapagliflozin alone or in combination with tadalafil on ED in patients with T2DM.

Methods: This was an open-label, non-randomized pilot study involving 30 Caucasian male patients with T2DM and severe ED.

In this study, the soil effect on the micro-component composition of wines obtained from different locations was investigated through H NMR-based metabolomics. Two different approaches were applied: the targeted (TA) and the non-targeted one (NTA). The former differentiated the wines by (i.

Bacteria producers of plant growth-promoting (PGP) substances are responsible for the enhancement of plant development through several mechanisms. The purpose of the present work was to evaluate the PGP traits of 63 bacterial strains that were isolated from an anthropogenic soil, and obtained by modification of vertisols in the Sicily region (Italy) seven years after creation. The microorganisms were tested for the following PGP characteristics: indole acetic acid (IAA), NH, HCN and siderophore production, 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate deaminase activity (ACC) and phosphate solubilization.

Our aim was to investigate the distribution of acid-base disorders in patients with COVID-19 ARDS using both the Henderson-Hasselbalch and Stewart's approach and to explore if hypoxemia can influence acid-base disorders. COVID-19 ARDS patients, within the first 48 h of the need for a non-invasive respiratory support, were retrospectively enrolled. Respiratory support was provided by helmet continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) or by non-invasive ventilation.

Background: We hypothesized that as CARDS may present different pathophysiological features than classic ARDS, the application of high levels of end-expiratory pressure is questionable. Our first aim was to investigate the effects of 5-15 cmHO of PEEP on partitioned respiratory mechanics, gas exchange and dead space; secondly, we investigated whether respiratory system compliance and severity of hypoxemia could affect the response to PEEP on partitioned respiratory mechanics, gas exchange and dead space, dividing the population according to the median value of respiratory system compliance and oxygenation. Thirdly, we explored the effects of an additional PEEP selected according to the Empirical PEEP-FiO table of the EPVent-2 study on partitioned respiratory mechanics and gas exchange in a subgroup of patients.

The aim of this study was to compare the number of the Pediatric Emergency Department (PED) visits for young allergic patients with respiratory or cutaneous symptoms during the first wave of the coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) pandemic in 2020 with the same period in 2019, evaluating the percentage of positive cases to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). We carried out a retrospective analysis using data from young patients who visited the PED with cutaneous or respiratory symptoms in the period from 20 February to 12 May of the years 2020 and 2019. Data on allergy and COVID-19 nasal swab were also collected.

The interface between biological and geochemical components in the surface crust of a saline soil was investigated using X-ray diffraction, and variable pressure scanning electron microscopy in combination with energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry. Mineral compounds such as halite and gypsum were identified crystallized around filaments of cyanobacteria. A total of 92 genera were identified from the bacterial community based on 16S gene pyrosequencing analysis.

Current guidelines recommend severity of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease be graded by using forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1). But this measurement is biased by thoracic gas compression depending on lung volume and airflow resistance. The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that the effect of thoracic gas compression on FEV1 is greater in emphysema than chronic bronchitis because of larger lung volumes, and this influences severity classification and prognosis.

In this study, the evaluation of soil characteristics was coupled with a pyrosequencing analysis of the V2-V3 16S rRNA gene region in order to investigate the bacterial community structure and diversity in the A horizon of a natural saline soil located in Sicily (Italy). The main aim of the research was to assess the organisation and diversity of microbial taxa using a spatial scale that revealed physical and chemical heterogeneity of the habitat under investigation. The results provided information on the type of distribution of different bacterial groups as a function of spatial gradients of soil salinity and pH.

Background: Macrovascular diseases (MVD) in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are often considered all together, without discriminating the areas involved. The aim of our study was to analyse MVD prevalence in a large population of T2DM patients by dividing the cases into subgroups according to MVD sites (NMVD, no MVD; NSCS, non-significant carotid stenosis; CBVD, cerebrovascular disease; CAD, coronary artery disease; PAD, peripheral artery disease; PVD, polyvascular disease) and studying the anthropometric, clinical and laboratory parameters in each group.

Methods: A diabetic outpatient cohort (n = 1199) was retrospectively studied.

In clinical practice, basal insulin dosage (BID) for the treatment for type 2 diabetes given as slow-acting analogues or NPH insulin varies widely when adjusted for body weight (UI/kg). In this study, we investigated the interrelationship between BID and anthropometric, laboratory and clinical parameters. A total of 681 type 2 diabetic patients, treated with bedtime insulin in association with other antidiabetic drugs (preprandial insulin and/or oral agents), were studied.

The template effects exerted by guests 14 and 15 in the ring closure reaction of 3 have been quantitatively evaluated. The rate largely increases in the presence of the two templates. The results are compared with those relative to the ring closure reaction of 1 yielding cyclobis(paraquat-p-phenylene), 2.

Background: Maculopapular and urticarial rashes are nonimmediate manifestations common during penicillin treatment; the former often represent cell-mediated hypersensitivity. Our objectives were to assess the incidence of allergy in adults reporting nonimmediate manifestations during penicillin therapy and to evaluate the diagnostic potential of patch tests, delayed-reading skin tests and challenges in such cases.

Methods: We used prick and intradermal tests as well as patch tests with penicillin determinants, ampicillin, amoxicillin and any other suspect penicillins.
