Article Synopsis
  • - The monkeypox virus has surged as a public health concern since May 2022, leading to cases in areas where it’s not typically found.
  • - A unique case during this outbreak involved a patient who developed paraphimosis—a painful condition affecting the penis—due to lesions from the monkeypox virus.
  • - The patient was treated successfully with a surgical procedure without needing antiviral medication, highlighting the importance of a collaborative medical approach for managing unusual monkeypox cases.

Introduction: Hyaluronic acid has been shown to be efficacious in decreasing scar formation, inflammation, and oxidative stress.

Aim: To assess the efficacy of intralesional injection of hyaluronic acid in patients affected by Peyronie's disease.

Methods: In this prospective, single-arm, self-controlled, interventional, multicenter pilot study, 65 patients underwent a 10-week cycle of weekly intraplaque injections with hyaluronic acid (0.

Lichen sclerosus (LS) is an inflammatory and chronic disease that causes itching, pain, dysuria, urinary retention, dyspareunia and sexual dysfunction, in both men and women. The first line pharmacological treatment is based on the use of topical steroids, which have proved their efficacy in 60-70% of cases but with a high rate of relapses in time (50-80% of the patients of both sexes). The purpose of our non-randomised prospective pilot study was to evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of a new loco regional therapy with polydeoxyribonucleotides (PDRN) in the treatment of male genital LS.

Peyronie's disease (PD) is a chronic disorder involving the tunica albuginea surrounding the corpora cavernosa of the penis. A conservative treatment is indicated in the first stage of disease. The aim of this study was to assess the therapeutic impact and possible side effects of treatment with pentoxifylline (PTX) in combination with other antioxidants in 307 patients with early-stage PD.

Robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) shows measurable advantages, compared to conventional open surgery, even if some aspects are, still, under debate. The aim of this study was to compare the potency recovery rate of patients with clinically localised prostate cancer treated by bilateral nerve-sparing (BNS) RARP or retropubic radical prostatectomy (RRP), and secondarily, the urinary continence recovery evaluation and the oncological efficacy. All patients treated with BNS-RARP or BNS-RRP for clinically localised prostate cancer, performed by a single dedicated surgeon, between January 2004 and December 2008, were enrolled in this non-randomised prospective comparative study.

The tumour apoptotic pattern is described as a good predictor of outcome in patients with prostate cancer (PCa). So far no authors have evaluated the role of apoptotic characteristics in patients who have undergone radical prostatectomy (RRP) alone. The aim of the present study is to estimate the prognostic role of the apoptotic index (AI) in a group of patients with prostatic adenocarcinoma subjected to RRP with no adjuvant therapy.

Objective: To evaluate the possible relationship between the basal and dynamic diameter of the cavernous arteries and altered peak diastolic (PDV) and systolic values (PSV) in patients undergoing penile Doppler ultrasound for differential diagnosis of erectile dysfunction (ED).

Materials And Methods: From December 2003 to December 2004 we examined 132 consecutive patients suffering from erectile dysfunction and 30 controls. All patients underwent penile Doppler ultrasound in basal and dynamic conditions and all the examinations were performed by measurements of the cavernous arteries diameters in basal and dynamic conditions.

Objective: Renal ultrasound is very important in the diagnosis of renal tumors.

Material And Methods: From January 2000 to Jannuary 2005 we retrospectively examined the records of 116 patients, 37 women and 79 men (mean age 54 years, range 22-77), who underwent radical nephrectomy for kidney cancer in clinical stage CT1N0M0. 2.

Prostate biopsy is a fundamental step in the diagnostic flow chart of prostate cancer. We have evaluated the influence of the number of cores taken on the tolerability and morbidity of the transperineal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy. We have compared a group of 240 pts undergone 16 core prostate biopsy to an historical cohort of 100 pts undergone 10 core prostate biopsy.

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationships existing between transrectal ultrasound and urodynamics in patients undergone radical retropubic prostatectomy and affected by stress incontinence.

Materials And Methods: 78 patients were suitabe for the study. They have been divided in three groups: group A, 18 incontinent patients (at least 1 pad a day); group B, 30 patients with occasional dribbling (no incontinence device needed); group C, 30 continent patients.

Dynamic penile eco colorDoppler (ECDP) shows limits of specificity in case of differential diagnosis between functional (adrenergic hypertone) and organic cavernovenous incompetence. The aim of this study is the evaluation of a new flow chart for venogenic erectile dysfunction diagnosis, including power Doppler (PD), avoiding the repetition of ECD with higher concentrations of PGE1. In fact this procedure is invasive, often painful and burdened by a consistent risk of priapism.
