The screening for BRAF V600E mutation is employed in clinical practice for its prognostic and potentially predictive role in patients with metastatic colorectal carcinoma (mCRC). Little information is available on the sensitivity and specificity of the testing methods to detect this mutation in CRC. By using serial dilution of BRAF mutant DNA with wild type DNA, we found that the sensitivity of allelic discrimination-Real Time PCR was higher than PCR-Sequencing (10% vs 20%).

However, only a restricted subgroup of NSCLC patients respond to treatment with the EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR TKI) gefitinib. Clinical trials have demonstrated that patients carrying activating mutations of the EGFR significantly benefit from treatment with gefitinib.

Aim: To evaluate whether the histology and grading of solitary pulmonary nodules (SPNs) correlated with the results of dynamic multiphase multidetector CT (MDCT) and the [(18)F]fluorodeoxyglucose standardised uptake value (SUV) in 30 patients.
Methods: Chest x-rays of 270 patients with incidentally detected SPNs were retrospectively evaluated. Thirty patients with histologically proven SPNs were enrolled.
