- The study examined the effects of patient-ventilator asynchrony on lung and diaphragm injury in a porcine model of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
- Results showed that asynchrony did not significantly increase alveolar septal thickness or worsen other measures of lung or diaphragm injury compared to synchronous breathing.
- This indicates that subject-ventilator asynchrony may not exacerbate lung or diaphragmatic damage in mechanically ventilated pigs with ARDS.
