Isolation and developmental characterization of temperature-sensitive carrot cell variants.

Carrot cell lines multiply indefinitely in the presence of the auxin 2,4-D. If auxin is removed, the cells regenerate plantlets in a process that closely resembles embryogenesis in vivo. We isolated a temperature-sensitive variant, ts 2, which is unable to regenerate at 31 °C (non-permissive temperature), but does form embryos and plants at 24 °C (permissive temperature).

1-alpha-OH-cholecalciferol (1-alpha-OHD3) and low phosphate diet in predialysis chronic renal failure: effects on renal function and on secondary hyperparathyroidism.

The effect of 1-alpha-OHD3 on the rate of decline of renal function was studied in 18 patients with predialytic chronic renal failure. 9 patients with serum creatinine 4.19 +/- 1.

Analysis of the heat-shock protein pattern during somatic embryogenesis of carrot.

The pattern of proteins synthesized by carrot cells after heat-shock was analyzed by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. A study was made of the time of appearance and disappearance of the heat-shock bands and a comparison was made of the heat-shock proteins present in cell extracts obtained from cell suspensions, callus, protoplasts and the different stages of somatic embryogenesis.From this comparison a number of differences and hence of stage-specific markers could be seen.

A new method for the purification of the different stages of carrot embryoids.

An easy method is presented for the purification of the different stages of carrot embryoids. This is based on a synchronization of the regenerating culture and on a filtration through filters of various pore sizes. A differential sedimentation was used for removing undifferentiated cells.

[General anesthesia with continuous-infusion ketamine].

The importance of Ketamine in continuous perfusion is described on the basis of a studied carried out in 30 patients. The clinical data are compared with results predicted by the mathematical model. Special study was made of the behaviour of the cardiocirculatory apparatus, particularly in reference to myocardial contractility and electroencephalographic activity.

On the grounds of the well-known finding of the familial incidence of the elongated QT interval in various conditions, a research has been carried on in order to point out the possible genetic conditioning of this electrocardiographic pattern. From the analysis of the QTc values in the components of 28 families of carriers of "labile pseudo-ischemic T wave" it comes out that the QTc phenomenon is conditioned by the heredity. The distribution of the aplotypes HLA does not permit to settle any correlation with these genetic markers on account of the restricted number of the examined cases.

After the demonstrated familial incidence of the "labile pseudo-ischemic T-wave" patterns, a research has been carried on in order to ascertain the possible genetic conditioning of the anomaly. The analysis of the pattern of the families, formed starting from the subjects carrier of the above-mentioned pattern, carried on with the Haldane sibships method corrected with that proposed by Lejeune, leads to affirm that the models of hereditary transmission able of explaining the found out distributions are of a not simple recessive type. The distribution of frequence of the subjects by "aplotype HLA" does not permit to settle a reliable correlation between the considerated electrocardiographic anomaly and the aplotype, at least as far as the number of the examined cases is concerned.

[CNV and SEP in shoe-industry workers affected by neuropathy due to toxic effects of adhesive solvents (author's transl)].

The sensitivity of the CNV and somatosensory evoked potentials (SEP) was assessed in shoe industry workers suffering from neurotoxic effects of adhesive solvents. We have examined 21 patients with clear electroneuromiographic and clinical signs of polyneuropathy as well as EEG signs of diffuse brain damage. 10 normal volunteers served as a control group.

[A specific anomalies of ventricular repolarization. Dysgenetic syndromes caused by functional asymmetry of the cardiac sympathetic nerves].

The following is a personal study of the case histories of 3 patients, spontaneous carriers of "labile pseudo-ischemic T wave" and of their direct consanguineous, a total of 25 subjects. In these three families the family incidence on electrocardiographic anomalies is confirmed. In these same subjects as well as in others belonging to families examined in a previous study, a total of 90 subjects, the duration of the QT interval was measured, showing values which tended to be above the average and, in some cases, above the accepted maximum.

[Hemodynamic research and physiopathologic remarks on "vibration angiopathy" with Raynaud's phenomenon (author's transl)].

A hemodynamic research was carried out by the authors in ten patients affected with upper limb "vibration angiopathy", as well as in ten healthy control subjects. Digital artery flow and systolic, diastolic and mean pressures were measured, and vascular resistances and the so-called "systolic index" calculated, both in basal condition and following hand warming. In patients with "vibration angiopathy" fingers were examined, which on a previous arteriographic study showed the most and the least severe arterial lesions, respectively.

[Behavior of lipoprotein X (LP-X) in viral hepatitis].

The AA. have studied the behaviour of LP-X in fifty cases of viral hepatitis printing out a positivity in 32% of the examined cases, with a positivity of the Au-antigen in the 34% of cases. They have observed a more remarkable inclination to the cholostasis in children (40% of the cases of positivity of LP-X), concluding for a scarce specificity of such a "marker" of cholostasis.
