Microbiome gained attention as a cofactor in cancers originating from epithelial tissues. High-risk (hr)HPV infection causes oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma but only in a fraction of hrHPV+ individuals, suggesting that other factors play a role in cancer development. We investigated oral microbiome in cancer-free subjects harboring hrHPV oral infection (n = 33) and matched HPV- controls (n = 30).

Methods: This single-center retrospective cohort study analyzed vitrified-warmed single euploid top-quality day-5 blastocyst transfers performed in non-obese women at the same IVF center by four equally trained clinicians using a standardized ET technique. These strict inclusion criteria allowed excluding all main confounders on the primary study outcome, namely clinical pregnancy rate (CPR) per ET across different operators.
Neurodegenerative pathologies such as age-related macular degeneration currently have no cure or effective treatment. In this type of disease, the presence of amyloid-β peptides, oxidative stress, and inflammation trigger dysregulation of retinal pigment epithelial cells and progression toward the death of these cells, resulting in a loss of vision. The production of amyloid-β peptides, oxidative stress, and inflammation can be triggered in response to viral infections.

Relevant information leads to lower anxiety, increased patient control and involvement in decision-making, greater satisfaction, and improved coping skills. To identify the unique needs of lung cancer patients and their caregivers (LPCs), a needs assessment was conducted.

Lung oligometastatic disease is among the most common sites for cancer spread and has the most established practices for treating oligometastases. A modified version of the Hennessy-Hicks Training Needs Assessment Questionnaire was administered online to HCPs working in private and public centers in the Philippines.

This study investigates the biochemical effects of citalopram (CIT) and bezafibrate (BEZ) on the mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis, at environmentally relevant concentrations, and their co-exposure with high-density polyethylene (HDPE) MPs. MPs accumulated in gills and digestive glands during exposure, but they were rapidly eliminated after depuration, except for a small fraction of the smallest MPs in gills.

Objective: To compare the effectiveness and cost of in-vitro fertilization (IVF) with or without preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A) when only one or two blastocysts are obtained.
Methods: A dataset was gathered from 1829 patients including 368 non-PGT-A and 1461 PGT-A cycles with one or two blastocysts obtained, between April 2013 and July 2022. Patients were matched 1:1 by propensity-score matching for maternal age, number of metaphase-II oocytes inseminated and number of blastocysts obtained, achieving a database of 242 patients per group.
Background: Populations with limited English proficiency (LEP) face comprehension barriers with health information as navigating healthcare systems involves encountering health information that is written at high reading grade levels, utilizes complex medical jargon, and unfamiliar or abstract terms and concepts. Despite the serious consequences of language discordance there is limited funding available for the translation of patient education material in the public healthcare setting. In response to the imperative need to provide equal access to patient education materials to all patients, regardless of English language proficiency, some have raised the feasibility of leveraging machine translation software.

Methods: Retrospective cohort study encompassing 444 couples obtained matching one PPOS-DuoStim with two antagonist-DuoStim cycles at a private IVF center between 2020 and 2023 (average maternal age: 40 years, average cumulus-oocyte complexes collected after the first stimulation: 5). The study was powered to exclude a two-sided different euploid blastocyst rate per MII oocytes (EBR per MII) in the two groups (alpha = 0.
The field of radiation oncology (RO) has experienced large fluctuations in the number of applicants to residency programs. It is essential to understand the modifiable factors which influence entry. The objective of this project is to identify factors (i.

The study focused on the robot's ability to persuade participants to follow its suggestions within the Balloon Analogue Risk Task (BART), where participants were challenged to balance the risk of bursting a virtual balloon against the potential reward of inflating it further. A between-subjects design was used, involving 62 participants divided evenly between customised or non-customised robot conditions.

Our recent data on the ability of an innovative poly-component formulation (KARISMA Rh Collagen FACE: K formulation) to suppress the biomolecular events associated with oxidative stress-induced aging prompted us to deepen the mechanisms underlying the observed effects on aged human dermal fibroblasts (HDFs). Here, we evaluated K's ability to perform a direct free radical-scavenging action and modulate anti-oxidant systems by counteracting the inflammatory process in an HO-induced cellular senescence model.

The primary aim of this descriptive study was to determine whether commonly used cancer PREMs have been developed according to health literacy best practices. The secondary and third aims were to examine the development of PREMs and to assess their comprehensiveness against principles of patient-centered care.

Purpose: This trial examined if patients with ≤5 sites of oligoprogression benefit from the addition of SABR to standard of care (SOC) systemic therapy.
Methods And Materials: We enrolled patients with 1 to 5 metastases progressing on systemic therapy, and after stratifying by type of systemic therapy (cytotoxic vs noncytotoxic), randomized 1:2 between continued SOC treatment versus SABR to all progressing lesions plus SOC. The trial was initially limited to non-small cell lung cancer but was expanded to include all nonhematologic malignancies to meet accrual goals.
Ageing represents a main risk factor for several pathologies. Among them, cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are predominant in the elderly population and often require prolonged use of multiple drugs due to their chronic nature and the high proportion of co-morbidities. Hence, research is constantly looking for novel, effective molecules to treat CVD and T2DM with minimal side effects.

This study (NCT03306680) aimed to determine the maximally tolerated dose of stereotactic body radiation therapy for ultracentral non-small cell lung carcinoma, using a time-to-event continual reassessment methodology.
Methods And Materials: Patients with T1-3N0M0 (≤6 cm) non-small cell lung carcinoma were eligible.

Purpose: The Canadian Association of Radiation Oncology Annual Scientific Meeting Medical Student Research and Mentorship Award was established in 2020 to support medical students pursuing radiation oncology (RO) research and RO as a career. This study is an evaluation of the effect of this national research and mentorship award on medical students, resident mentors, and research supervisors over 3 iterations.
Methods And Materials: Three separate surveys were created for medical student mentees, RO resident mentors, and attending research supervisors.
