In this paper, an assessment of the natural radioactivity level, radon exhalation, metal contamination, and mineralogy of a granodiorite rock sample from Stilo, in the Calabria region, Southern Italy is presented as a case study. This rock was employed as a building material in the area under study. The specific activity of Ra, Th and K natural radioisotopes was assessed through high-purity germanium (HPGe) gamma-ray spectrometry.

To this purpose, high-purity germanium (HPGe) γ-ray spectrometry was employed in order to quantify the average specific activity of Ra, Th, and K natural radioisotopes. With the aim to assess any possible radiological health risk for the population, the absorbed γ-dose rate (), the annual effective dose equivalent outdoor () and indoor (), the activity concentration index (), and the alpha index () were also estimated, resulting in values that were lower than the maximum recommended ones for humans.

However, the variation of the refractive index with the temperature, the thermo-optic coefficient, is itself temperature-dependent. A precise characterization of the thermo-optic coefficient in a wide temperature range is therefore essential for the design of nonlinear optical devices, active and passive integrated photonic devices and, more in general, for the semiconductor technology explored at different wavelengths, from the visible domain to the infrared or ultraviolet spectrum.

In this article, an investigation of the natural radioactivity content of pyroclastic products from Mt. Etna, eastern Sicily, Southern Italy, was carried out. In particular, the assessment of the average activity concentration of the investigated radionuclides, related to the mineralogical phase composition of the analyzed samples, and the radiological health risk for the population, was performed.

The analysis of radionuclides contents was performed by using a High Purity Germanium (HPGe) gamma-ray detector, in order to quantify the average specific activity of Ra, Th and K natural radionuclides and Cs anthropogenic radioisotope. The absorbed dose rate and the annual effective dose equivalent radiological hazard indices were also estimated.

In this study, a novel nerve guide conduit was developed, based on a three-dimensional (3D) graphene conductive core grown, by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) coupled with a polycaprolactone (PCL) polymer coating. Firstly, the monolithic 3D-graphene foam (3D-GF) was synthesized on Ni foam templates via inductive heating CVD, subsequently, Ni/Graphene samples were dipped successively in PCL and cyclododecane (CDD) solutions prior to the removal of Ni from the 3D-GF/PCL scaffold in FeCl. Our results showed that the electrical conductivity of the polymer composites reached to 25 S.

Hence, their integration in optoelectronic and photonic devices is easier thanks to their low dimensionality and offers the possibility to reach high-quality performances. In this context, the combination of CDs and Gr into new nanocomposite materials CDs/Gr can further improve their optoelectronic properties and eventually create new ones, paving the way for the development of advanced carbon nanotechnology.

The crystalline phase was obtained avoiding any high temperature annealing. We studied the formation of nanotubes in an HF/HO medium and the development of crystalline grains on the nanotube wall, and we found a facile way to achieve crystalline TiO nanotube arrays through a one-step anodization.

Pyridine-CVD is expected to lead to doped graphene by the insertion of nitrogen atoms in the growing sp(2) carbon lattice, possibly improving the properties of graphene as a transparent conductive film. We here report on the influence that the CVD parameters (i.

We measured the optical force constants using linearly and radially polarized trapping beams finding a reshaping of the optical potential and an enhanced axial spring constant for the latter. These measurements open perspectives for the control and handling of silicon nanoparticles as labeling agents in biological analysis and fluorescence imaging techniques.
