Background: Robotic-assisted kidney transplant (RAKT) has proven to be a successful approach for patients with morbid obesity and more centers are encouraged to apply robotic approach also for deceased donor kidney transplantation. Prolonged cold ischemia time (CIT) is accompanied by delayed graft function (DGF) and early graft loss after traditional open kidney transplant (OKT). This study examines the impact of CIT after robotic kidney transplantation on settings of deceased donation.

Current scientific literature is deficient in detailing the optimal timing for conducting bariatric surgery in relation to kidney transplantation. In this study, we performed a retrospective evaluation of kidney transplant recipients with BMI >35 kg/m. It aimed to provide data on those who received both sleeve gastrectomy (SG) and kidney transplantation (KT) simultaneously, as well as on patients who underwent SG and KT at different times, either before or after.

Intra-abdominal desmoid tumors are a rare and complex clinical problem. These tumors are locally invasive, and surgical ablation represents the mainstay of treatment. When localized at the root of the mesentery, their resection may require extensive excision of the intestine resulting in intestinal failure and life-long total parenteral nutrition.

Introduction: Intestinal transplantation poses a unique challenge in the field of solid organ transplantation. The combination of tacrolimus and prednisone stands as the foundational cornerstone of maintenance immunosuppression in the field of intestinal transplantation. This case series aims to describe 1-year clinical outcomes of 5 intestinal transplant recipients who received a novel immunosuppression regimen consisting of monthly basiliximab, sublingual tacrolimus, and prednisone.

Background: Hypoparathyroidism is a relatively rare endocrine disorder defined as inadequate parathyroid hormone (PTH) secretion leading to a clinical syndrome characterized by hyperphosphatemia and hypocalcemia. This condition has high morbidity; patients present with a heterogeneous range of emotional, mental, and physical symptoms. We present our experience with PTH transplantation, using parathyroid glands surgically removed in the setting of secondary hyperparathyroidism, with a description of the clinical course, immunosuppressive management, and surgical technique.

The diabetic population is witnessing a rise in obesity rates, creating specific hurdles for individuals seeking pancreas transplantation because they are frequently disqualified due to their elevated body weight. Introducing a robotic-assisted approach to transplantation has been proven to yield improved outcomes, particularly in patients with obesity. A retrospective analysis was conducted between January 2015 and September 2023.

This essay discusses Universal Design (UD) with respect to language and communication rights. Because Universal Design approaches aim at meeting human variability from the get-go, they must be able to address linguistic and communicative variability. Variability must individual variation in language functions and communication activities in the absence of disability and variability when speech, language or communicative disorders are present.

We report the reading performance of an Italian speaker with egocentric Neglect Dyslexia on sentences with Negative Concord structures, which contain a linguistic cue to the presence of a preceding negative marker and compare it to sentences with no such cue. As predicted, the frequency of reading the whole sentence, including the initial negative marker , was higher in Negative Concord structures than in sentences which also started with , but crucially, lacked the medially positioned linguistic cue to the presence of . These data support the claim that the presence of linguistic cues to sentence structure modulates attention during reading in Neglect Dyslexia.

Obesity is a growing issue that is spreading worldwide; its prevalence is ever increasing in patients with end-stage renal disease and represents a potential barrier to transplantation. The lack of unanimous guidelines exacerbates the current disparity in treatment, which can affect outcomes, leading to a significantly longer time on the waiting list. Multidisciplinary and multimodal management (encompassing several healthcare professionals such as nephrologists, transplant physicians and surgeons, primary care providers, and nurses) is of paramount importance for the optimal management of this patient population in a continuum from waitlisting to transplantation.

Robotic-assisted kidney transplant (RAKT) has proven to be a successful approach for patients with elevated body mass index (BMI). To date, a paucity of studies comprehensively analyzing the clinical outcomes of RAKT by using the grafts from deceased donors exists. This was a single-center retrospective analysis of RAKT from deceased donor kidneys (n = 93) from 2009 to 2021.

Captions have been found to benefit diverse learners, supporting comprehension, memory for content, vocabulary acquisition, and literacy. Captions may, thus, be one feature of universally designed learning (UDL) environments [1, 4]. The primary aim of this study was to examine whether captions are always useful, or whether their utility depends on individual differences, specifically proficiency in the language of the audio.

Background: In the setting of kidney transplantation, histopathology of kidney biopsies is a key element in the organ assessment and allocation. Despite the broad diffusion of the Remuzzi-Karpinski score on preimplantation kidney biopsies, scientific evidence of its correlation to the transplantation outcome is controversial. The main issues affecting the prognostic value of histopathology are the referral to general on-call pathologists and the semiquantitative feature of the score, which can raise issues of interpretation.

Article Synopsis
  • A pilot study was conducted at three Italian universities (Brescia, Trieste, and Venice) to assess Inclusion using indicators based on the International Classification of Functioning Disability and Health (ICF).
  • The study combined Universal Design principles for both built and instructional environments and created a 35-item checklist focused on four specific ICF Environmental Chapters.
  • The findings revealed that while accommodations for students with disabilities are legally required, the implementation often relies on individual accommodations instead of adopting a universal design approach that would benefit all students.

Background: With the aging of recipients of renal transplantation (RT) one of the emerging issues is the incidence of low urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), which may have negative consequences on the graft survival and function. The aim of our study was to assess the influence of LUTS and the treatment with transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) on the outcome of RT.

Materials And Methods: We collected data from men over 55 who underwent RT at our center from January 2007 to December 2016.

The landmark UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the first time explicitly makes reference to the inclusion of the needs and capacities of all persons, on equal grounds, in the planning of our built environment and services (Goal 11) and in our quality educational systems (Goal 4). Accessibility and inclusion of all people in vulnerable situations, including people with disabilities, provides a strong benchmark for sustainability. Accessibility and Inclusion in higher education are the topic of an increasing number of studies, however, there is no existing common set of multidomain indicators for Inclusion available to the multiple stakeholders involved in higher education.

Anomia, a word-finding difficulty, is a frequent consequence of poststroke linguistic disturbance, associated with fluent and nonfluent aphasia that needs long-term specific and intensive speech rehabilitation. The present study explored the feasibility of telerehabilitation as compared to a conventional face-to-face treatment of naming, in patients with poststroke anomia. Five aphasic chronic patients participated in this study characterized by: strictly controlled crossover design; well-balanced lists of words in picture-naming tasks where progressive phonological cues were provided; same kind of the treatment in the two ways of administration.
