Familial Monkeypox Virus Infection Involving 2 Young Children.

We report intrafamilial transmission of monkeypox virus to all members of a family (father, mother, and 2 children). Case reports in young children have been extremely rare during the 2022 mpox outbreak. Their clinical signs were mild, and clinical diagnosis would be difficult without knowledge of the father's monkeypox virus infection.

Signal neutrality, scalar property, and collapsing boundaries as consequences of a learned multi-timescale strategy.

We postulate that three fundamental elements underlie a decision making process: perception of time passing, information processing in multiple timescales and reward maximisation. We build a simple reinforcement learning agent upon these principles that we train on a random dot-like task. Our results, similar to the experimental data, demonstrate three emerging signatures.

Background: Natural disasters are typically associated with the emergence of infectious diseases. On 15 June 2010, severe storms caused flooding in the Var department (France). A rumour about increased risk of Staphylococcusaureus skin infections after bathing in the sea began to circulate on Internet a few days after the floods.

Shoreline Nails: A New Nail Sign of SARS-CoV-2 Infection.

With the onset of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, a number of nail unit changes have been associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection. We report a new unique nail finding within one month of infection and RT-PCR test positivity characterized by an abrupt proximal superficial nail plate change characteristic of shoreline nails. The possibility that this nail change may represent a Koebner phenomenon in patients prone to lichen planus is raised.

Background: Toxocariasis, caused by a nematode species of the genus Toxocara, has been described as one of the most prevalent zoonotic helminthiases worldwide. Human transmission may occur by ingesting Toxocara spp. larvae from raw or undercooked meat or organs; however, no comprehensive serosurvey study has been conducted to date investigating the role of cattle as paratenic hosts.

Nocardia takedensis: a newly recognized pathogen responsible for skin and soft tissue infections.

Nocardia takedensis was first isolated in 2005, from soil in Japan. We report here two cases of lymphangitis in France (2012-2017) caused by N. takedensis both occurring after skin injury while gardening, which enabled its inoculation.

Revisiting the Relationship Between Price Regulation and Pharmaceutical R&D Investment.

Background: A trade-off exists between affordability of pharmaceutical products today and incentives for firms to provide new and better drugs in the future; an activity that prior studies suggest correlates with profitability, which in turn depends on price regulation.

Objective: In this paper we re-examined the relationship between price regulation and pharmaceutical research and development (R&D) intensity, and explored the role of profitability and cash flow in mediating this relation using the latest available data from 2000 to 2017 for the 10 most innovative pharmaceutical companies.

Methods: Following a framework similar to a previous study, we exploited stylized facts about sales volumes in Europe and USA, which give rise to variation in exposure to price regulation.
