Background: Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is employed in caries prevention and treatment; however, tooth discoloration post treatment is a significant disadvantage, which can be reduced using glutathione (GSH), a water soluble tripeptide.

Aim: To evaluate and compare the effect of glutathione biomolecule (GSH) and potassium iodide (KI) along with SDF on tooth discoloration and shear bond strength of glass ionomer cement (GIC) on the tooth surface.

Methods: Artificial caries were created on 48 extracted unblemished premolars and divided into four groups (SDF, SDF + KI, SDF + GSH, and Water).

The study explored revenge fantasies as a response to perceived injustices among Indian Hindu women amid the prevalent gender-based violence. A mixed-method design with 52 women (18-56 years) was used to collect their drawings and narratives depicting revenge fantasies, demographics, the Traumatic Events Questionnaire, and the Injustice Experiences Questionnaire. Participants highlighted non-family events with strangers as perpetrators, preferring avoidance as the common revenge fantasy.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the characteristics of coronary artery disease in young adults (≤35 years) compared to older adults (>60 years) who experienced ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).
  • Using optical coherence tomography (OCT), researchers found that plaque erosion was more prevalent in younger patients, while plaque rupture was more common in older patients.
  • The study concluded that the mechanisms behind STEMI differ based on age, with young individuals showing more cases of subacute thrombus linked to plaque erosion.

Background/objectives: The current study compared Self-Figure drawings from Thai and Indian adolescents to assess the cross-cultural applicability of a child abuse assessment tool. The research aims to understand the extent to which distinctions or similarities arise in Self-Figure drawings among adolescents from two culturally similar yet distinct backgrounds characterized by differences in religious affiliations, socioeconomic contexts, and political environments.

Methods: Employing a mixed-methods approach, the study utilized quantitative measures, including the Traumatic Events Checklist (TEQ-5) and Medical Somatic Dissociation Questionnaire (MSDQ), alongside a qualitative analysis of Self-Figure drawings.

Auto-immune pancreatitis (AIP) is a rare benign disease commonly presented with painless obstructive jaundice and biliary obstruction with rare complications like pseudocyst. We present a case series of two patients of AIP with unusual presentations; one case presented with periorbital swelling, jaundice, and pseudocyst, and the other case presented with abdominal pain and biliary obstruction without jaundice; both showed good response with steroids.

Article Synopsis
  • About 5-10% of NF1 patients have large deletions in the NF1 gene, with the most common deletion being 1.4 Mb, leading to severe symptoms.
  • This deletion can cause issues like learning disabilities, early skin tumors, higher tumor risk, and heart problems.
  • The study analyzed 22 deletion patients to link deletion size to symptoms and explore how other genetic variations might influence the severity of NF1 features.

Background The unprecedented situation due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) lockdown necessitated the need for teleconsultations with caregivers of children with disabilities. The objective of this study was to explore the acceptability, satisfaction, perceived relevance, and barriers to teleconsultation from a caregiver's perspective. Methodology This was a descriptive qualitative study (telephonic interviews) involving in-depth interviews (IDIs) with the caregivers of children with developmental disabilities who received teleconsultations.

Objectives: The presentation and outcomes of acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) during COVID times (June 2020 to Dec 2020) were compared with the historical control during the same period in 2019.

Methods: Data of 4806 consecutive patients of acute HF admitted in 22 centres in the country were collected during this period. The admission patterns, aetiology, outcomes, prescription of guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) and interventions were analysed in this retrospective study.

Background: Psychosocial factors such as stress have been previously implicated as a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). There is little evidence regarding the prevalence of stress among patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI).

Methods: A total of 903 patients with AMI enrolled in the North Indian ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction (NORIN-STEMI) registry were included in this study.

Objective: To find out differences in the presentation, management and outcomes of COVID-19 infected STEMI patients compared to age and sex-matched non-infected STEMI patients treated during the same period.

Methods: This was a retrospective multicentre observational registry in which we collected data of COVID-19 positive STEMI patients from selected tertiary care hospitals across India. For every COVID-19 positive STEMI patient, two age and sex-matched COVID-19 negative STEMI patients were enrolled as control.

Background: Genetic polymorphism in MMPs are associated with multiple adverse CV events. There is little evidence regarding role of MMPs and their genetic polymorphisms in young (<50 years) ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients.

Methods: This study included 100 young (18-50 years) STEMI patients and 100 healthy controls.

Peripheral giant-cell granulomas (PGCGs) are reddish color lesions of the gingiva which are frequently diagnosed on a routine basis by many dentists in the regular dental practice. Most of the lesions of PGCG are slow-growing, nonaggressive with asymptomatic, and tend to recur. Here, we exhibit a case of PGCG of the upper jaw in a 15-year-old girl child.

Unlabelled: Aortic coarctation presenting with neurological complications as compressive myelopathy is rare. We report a case of a 43-year-old, hypertensive, female who presented with gradually progressive paraparesis over 4 years. She was diagnosed to be having coarctation of the aorta with intra-spinal collaterals causing compressive myelopathy.

Background: Dysglycemia is a major and increasingly prevalent cardiometabolic risk factor worldwide, but is often undiagnosed even in high-risk patients. We evaluated the impact of protocolized screening for dysglycemia on the prevalence of prediabetes and diabetes among patients presenting with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) in North India.

Methods: We conducted a prospective NORIN STEMI registry-based study of patients presenting with STEMI to two government-funded tertiary care medical centers in New Delhi, India, from January to November 2019.

Background: Risk prediction following ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) in resource limited countries is critical to identify patients at an increased risk of mortality who might benefit from intensive management.

Methods: North India ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (NORIN-STEMI) is an ongoing registry that has prospectively enrolled 3,635 STEMI patients. Of these, 3191 patients with first STEMI were included.

Background: Overt left ventricular (LV) dysfunction and congestive heart failure are known entities in Takayasu arteritis (TA). Subclinical LV dysfunction may develop in these patients despite normal LV ejection fraction (LVEF). Moreover, effect of treatment of aortic or renal artery narrowing in such patients is unknown.

Background: The presentation of a hot swollen joint is common in the emergency department, general practice, rheumatology and orthopedic clinics. There is a wide set of differential diagnoses for a hot swollen joint, thus making it difficult to diagnose and manage, especially for junior doctors. Initially, it is pertinent to exclude/diagnose medical and surgical emergencies.

Article Synopsis
  • Coronary artery anomalies (CAAs) are various disorders that mostly don't show symptoms and are often discovered accidentally during coronary angiograms or autopsies.
  • A study of 28,800 patients from 2016 to 2020 found that 4.12% of them had CAAs, primarily in the left coronary artery (LCA).
  • CAAs were categorized into three types: anomalies of coronary artery connection (most common, 48.48%), anomalies of myocardial/coronary artery interaction (34.49%), and anomalies of intrinsic coronary artery anatomy (17.03%).
