Background Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the sixth most common cancer worldwide accounting for 90% of all malignant oral lesions with high mortality and a five-year survival rate of about 50%. Various studies have shown mast cells regulate carcinogenesis by immunosuppression, angiogenesis enhancement, and promotion of tumor cell mitosis. Aim Hence, the present study was aimed to compare mast cell counts in normal oral mucosa with histological grades of oral squamous cell carcinoma by using toluidine blue stain.
