Purpose: Claudin 18.2 (CLDN18.2) is a surface membrane protein that is crucial for maintaining tight junctions in gastric mucosal cells and is highly expressed in gastric, esophageal, and pancreatic cancers.

Also, the need for prolonged enteral nutrition while on ECMO may require endoscopic gastrostomy to maintain adequate nutritional status. Here we describe our experience with emergency laparotomy and endoscopic gastrostomy in patients on ECMO support.

Nursing professionals are often the first to encounter these scenarios in various settings. Adequate preparation and competent knowledge among nurses significantly impact survival rates positively.

Across many cancers, including triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), a high stroma/tumor ratio correlates with poor survival. In many contexts, this correlation can be explained by the direct reduction of therapy sensitivity induced by stroma-produced paracrine factors.

It also shares different disadvantages typical of rare diseases, including limited recognition, lack of prospective studies assessing treatment, and little or delayed access to advanced treatment options. Reliable data about the prevalence and natural history of cardiomyopathies in South America are lacking.

Microbial C1 fixation has a vast potential to support a sustainable circular economy. Hence, several biotechnologically important microorganisms have been recently engineered for fixing C1 substrates. However, reports about C1-based bioproduction with these organisms are scarce.

There is evidence in the literature that it can be a cost-effective intervention in developed countries; however, in countries with low gross domestic product per capita, such as Colombia, there are still some doubts. Objective: To determine the incremental cost-effectiveness ratio of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome in Colombia.

Here, we aimed to characterize the molecular landscape of GBC and identify markers with potential prognostic and therapeutic implications.
Experimental Design: GBC samples were analyzed using the MSK-IMPACT (Memorial Sloan Kettering-Integrated Mutation Profiling of Actionable Cancer Targets) platform (targeted NGS assay that analyzes 505 cancer-associated genes).
Both tumors and aging alter the immune landscape of tissues. These interactions may play an important role in tumor progression among elderly patients and may suggest considerations for patient care. We leverage large-scale genomic and clinical databases to perform comprehensive comparative analysis of molecular and cellular markers of immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) response with patient age.

Here, we introduce a comprehensive platform for multispectral imaging and mapping of multiple parameters in tumor tissue sections with high-fidelity single-cell resolution. Image analysis and data handling components were drawn from the field of astronomy.

Due to the high absorption properties of light-harvesting antenna, photosynthetic cells tend to capture an excessive amount of energy that cannot be entirely channeled through the electron transfer chain that ends up dissipated as heat and fluorescence, reducing the overall light use efficiency. Aiming to minimize this hurdle, in this work we studied the effect of decreasing concentrations of Magnesium (Mg) on the chlorophyll a content, photosynthetic performance, biomass and lipid production of autotrophic cultures of Botryococcus braunii LB 572.

The most common disease manifestations are pneumonia and bacteremia, with a mortality ranging from 9% to 60.5% depending of the type of infection and host related underlying risk factors.

Introduction: The use of an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator reduces the probability of sudden cardiac death in patients with heart failure.
Objective: To determine the cost-utility relationship of an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator compared to optimal pharmacological therapy for patients with ischemic or non-ischemic New York Heart Association class II or III (NYHA II-III) heart failure in Colombia.
Materials And Methods: We developed a Markov model including costs, effectiveness, and quality of life from the perspective of the Colombian health system.
Clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) possesses an unmet medical need, particularly at the metastatic stage, when surgery is ineffective. Complement is a key factor in tissue inflammation, favoring cancer progression through the production of complement component 5a (C5a). However, the activation pathways that generate C5a in tumors remain obscure.

In this sense, technological tools can contribute to improve access to this information and the appropriate use of medicines in this population. However, currently, in Colombia, there are no tools to facilitate this process.

The expansion of research on the tumor immune microenvironment, the successes and dissemination of immunotherapies to treat cancer, and the open access to large -omic databases have allowed the development of novel powerful immune-based prognostic and theranostic biomarkers. Although they often correlate with histopathologic characteristics and TNM staging, in many instances, they are independently associated with, and potentially superior predictors of, the patient's prognosis and response to immunotherapies.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe highly complex and heterogenous ecosystem of a tumour not only contains malignant cells, but also interacting cells from the host such as endothelial cells, stromal fibroblasts, and a variety of immune cells that control tumour growth and invasion. It is well established that anti-tumour immunity is a critical hurdle that must be overcome for tumours to initiate, grow and spread and that anti-tumour immunity can be modulated using current immunotherapies to achieve meaningful anti-tumour clinical responses. Pioneering studies in melanoma, ovarian and colorectal cancer have demonstrated that certain features of the tumour immune microenvironment (TME)-in particular, the degree of tumour infiltration by cytotoxic T cells-can predict a patient's clinical outcome.
