Treatment of multiple sclerosis relapses with high-dose methylprednisolone reduces the evolution of contrast-enhancing lesions into persistent black holes.

Introduction: The MRI evidence of persistent black holes (pBHs) on T1-weighted images reflects brain tissue loss in multiple sclerosis (MS). The evolution of contrast-enhancing lesions (CELs) into pBHs probably depends on the degree and persistence of focal brain inflammation. The aim of our retrospective study was to evaluate the effect of a single cycle of intravenous methylprednisolone (IVMP), as for MS relapse treatment, on the risk of CELs' evolution into pBHs.

Role of multiparametric MRI in the diagnosis of prostate cancer: update.

We report the case of a 78-year-old man presenting with pain in right hemithorax that occurred suddenly after coughing. A palpable chest wall mass, soft in consistency, was noted on physical examination, and chest X-ray and CT allowed to make diagnosis of spontaneous lung hernia.

[Small renal cell carcinoma (≤ 4 cm): enhancement patterns on triphasic spiral CT].

The aim of this study was to define enhancement patterns of small renal cell carcinoma (RCC) (≤4 cm) by triphasic spiral CT. In 24 patients with RCC, hypervascularity and hypovascularity were identified in 12 and 12 RO, respectively, in the cortico-medullary phase (CMP). Hypervascular RCC showed increased density in the CMP (170,7±46,3 UH) and a gradual wash-out in the nephrographic phase (NP) (152,5±41 UH) and pielographic phase (PF) (99,2±38 UH).
