Screening for diabetic retinopathy with artificial intelligence: a real world evaluation.

Aim: Periodic screening for diabetic retinopathy (DR) is effective for preventing blindness. Artificial intelligence (AI) systems could be useful for increasing the screening of DR in diabetic patients. The aim of this study was to compare the performance of the DAIRET system in detecting DR to that of ophthalmologists in a real-world setting.

MTHFR C677T polymorphism, folate status and colon cancer risk in acromegalic patients.

Background: Acromegalic patients have a higher risk of developing colorectal tumours (CRT). The common C677T polymorphism in methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene is a well-documented CRT risk factor in the general population, but its role in acromegaly has never been examined.

Purpose: We investigated the influence of MTHFR C677T polymorphism, folate status and other lifestyle, nutritional and disease-specific variables on CRT risk in acromegaly.

Acromegaly and coronary disease: an integrated evaluation of conventional coronary risk factors and coronary calcifications detected by computed tomography.

Context: Coronary atherosclerosis in acromegaly was not extensively investigated in the literature until now. At autopsy, it was demonstrated in about 20% of patients with long-lasting disease, and myocardial infarction was reported as cause of death in a quarter of acromegalics.

Objective: The objective of the study was to evaluate coronary atherosclerosis in a cohort of acromegalics with controlled or uncontrolled disease.
