Mixed domain coherent link with electrically reconfigurable IMDD and coherent modes for O-band data center applications.

We report the first O-band link with electrically reconfigurable intensity-modulation direct-detection (IMDD) and coherent operation using custom silicon photonic chips packaged with commercial electronic chips. Transmission below the KP4-FEC threshold is shown using commercial 53 Gbaud PAM4 digital signal processing (DSP) for 16QAM (200 Gbps/λ) and PAM4 (100 Gbps/λ). Efficient operation of the packaged full link at 12 and 11.

Observation of tunable optical filtering in photosensitive composite structures containing liquid crystals.

We report on the investigation and characterization of an optically tunable filtering effect, observed in a waveguide grating made of alternated strips of photocurable polymer and a mixture of azo-dye-doped liquid crystal. The grating is sandwiched between two borosilicate glasses, one of which includes an ion-exchanged channel waveguide, which confines the optical signal to be filtered. Exposure to a low power visible light beam modifies the azo-dye molecular configuration, thus allowing the filtered wavelength to be tuned over a 6.

Widely tunable electro-optic distributed Bragg reflector in liquid crystal waveguide.

We propose and numerically investigate a versatile and easy-to-realize configuration for a guided-wave voltage-tunable distributed feedback grating based on reorientation in nematic liquid crystal and coplanar comb electrodes. The device has a wide tuning range exceeding 100 nm and covers C and L bands for wavelength division multiplexing.

Liquid-crystal tunable filter based on sapphire microspheres.

We design an integrated optoelectronic device based on the whispering-gallery modes of a sapphire microsphere integrated with a liquid-crystal tuning medium to produce a narrowband, electrically tunable, channel-dropping filter. The sapphire microsphere is glued over a diffused waveguide in a glass substrate. At the base of the microsphere, a small volume of liquid crystal is infiltrated.

Carriage of group B Streptococcus in pregnant women and newborns: a 2-year study at Perugia General Hospital.

OBJECTIVE: To study the prevalence of group B Streptococcus (GBS) colonization in pregnant women and their newborns at Perugia General Hospital. METHODS: The number of mother---child pairs examined was 2300. Vaginal swabs were collected from the mothers at delivery, and auricular and pharyngeal swabs and gastric aspirate from the newborns at birth.
