Presbyphonia is a multi-dimensional pathology. Therefore, its treatment should address its different affecting factors, including a global health management to fight geriatric frailty, improve overall physical strength, and limit medication side-effects. The specific therapies should address glottal gap closure and vocal folds' pliability.

Background: Treating options for vocal fold cysts became more diversified with office-based laryngological surgery advances, offering new soft interventions, promising a good vocal outcome within a shorter healing period.

Methods: We proposed two types of in-office surgeries, performed in the outpatient setting: a cyst punction-aspiration emptying the cyst, relieving its tension and improving the mucosal wave, with 4 cases showing no refilling within one year of follow-up, and a cyst marsupialization with Blue Laser, with 3 reported cases showing good vocal fold healing within three months.

Conclusion: Both techniques showed promising results in improving vocal function and minimizing recovery time.

Introduction: Despite an improved understanding of its pathogenesis, dry eye disease (DED) remains relatively underestimated and its treatment challenging. A better alignment between the clinical evaluation and the patient self-assessment also requires capturing the whole patient experience of DED. This project aimed to unveil this experience through narrative medicine (NM).

Unilateral vocal fold paralysis (UVFP) has a known impact on patients' quality of life. One of the potentially affected domains that has not been studied yet is emotional prosody. To produce and transmit an efficient emotional prosody, several vocal parameters are modulated by the speaker, principally the fundamental frequency, the speech rate, and the voice intensity.

Avian eggs develop outside of the female body, and therefore embryonic development is subject to multiple internal (physiological) and external (ecological) factors. Embryonic developmental rate has important consequences for survival. Within species, embryos that develop too quickly often experience deformities, disorders, or mortality, while embryos that develop slowly risk inviability and increase the time they are exposed to various sources of mortality in the nest.

Persistent nocardiosis has prompted exploration of the effectiveness of heterologous approaches to prevent severe infections. We have previously reported the efficacy of a nucleic acid vaccine in protecting groupers from highly virulent Nocardia seriolae infections. Ongoing research has involved the supplementation of recombinant cholesterol oxidase (rCho) proteins through immunization with a DNA vaccine to enhance the protective capacity of orange-spotted groupers.

Background: Osteoporosis in males is largely under-diagnosed and under-treated, with most of the diagnosis confirmed only after an osteoporotic fracture. Therefore, there is an urgent need for highly accurate and precise technologies capable of identifying osteoporosis earlier, thereby avoiding complications from fragility fractures.

Aims: This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy and precision of the non-ionizing technology Radiofrequency Echographic Multi Spectrometry (REMS) for the diagnosis of osteoporosis in a male population in comparison with conventional Dual-energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA).

Background: Partial dopamine D receptor agonists are used for psychotic symptoms in adults with schizophrenia spectrum disorders. Recently, interest surged for partial dopamine D receptor agonists in substance use disorders (SUDs). Since it is believed that SUDs decrease the efficacy of pharmacotherapy of underlying psychiatric disorders, we tested the efficacy of the partial D agonist brexpiprazole in patients with schizophrenia who were either comorbid with a SUD (SUD group) or not comorbid (non-SUD) to assess treatment response and the effect of brexpiprazole on substance craving in SUD.

Introduction: Dysphagia in post COVID-19 patients could be caused by several factors, including reduced pharyngolaryngeal coordination due to SARS-CoV-2 tropism to the central and/or peripheral nervous system. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of COVID-19-related dysphagia successfully treated with botulinum toxin type A injection.

Case Description: We report the case of a patient with severe oropharyngeal dysphagia due to COVID-19 confirmed by fibre endoscopy.

Preoperative sonographic staging in patients with suspected parametrial endometriosis is essential to plan surgical intervention and anticipate the need for a multidisciplinary approach, and thus optimize surgical outcome. The results of a recent meta-analysis suggest that there is a need to define more accurately the ultrasonographic criteria for parametrial involvement in endometriosis. This addendum to the International Deep Endometriosis Analysis (IDEA) consensus highlights the sonographic characteristics of the parametrium and identifies ultrasound techniques to diagnose deep endometriosis in this area.

Nocardiosis in aquatic animals caused by Nocardia seriolae is a frequently occurring serious infection that has recently spread to many countries. In this study, DNA vaccines containing potential bacterial antigens predicted using the reverse vaccinology approach were developed and evaluated in orange-spotted groupers. In silico analysis indicated that proteins including cholesterol oxidase, ld-transpeptidase, and glycosyl hydroxylase have high immunogenicity and are potential vaccine candidates.

Background: In-office laryngological procedures became common alternatives to general anesthesia for biopsies, injection laryngoplasties, and laser procedures. The limiting step remains the laryngeal anesthesia whose quality can influence patients' and operators' comfort.

Methods: We propose to dye the lidocaine with methylene blue and do an instillation through a catheter introduced in the video-endoscope's operating channel, which permits a progressive anesthesia focused on the larynx, avoiding an unwanted pharyngeal anesthesia and any tracheal irritation.

Hosts of obligate avian brood parasites often evolve defense mechanisms to avoid rearing unrelated young. One common defense is egg rejection, for which hosts often rely on eggshell color. Most research has assumed that hosts respond to perceived color differences between their own eggs and parasite eggs regardless of the particular color; however, recent experiments have found that many hosts respond more strongly to brown foreign eggs than to equally dissimilar blue eggs.

Allogeneic peripheral blood stem cells mobilization is now the basis of most stem cell transplants. In a very limited number of cases, mobilization is suboptimal leading to further collection procedures, to suboptimal cell doses infusion with delayed engraftment time, increased risks of transplant procedure and of related costs. To date we have no recognized and shared criteria for early estimating the probability of poor mobilization in healthy donors.
