Fiber-reinforced composites (FRCs) have been proposed as an alternative to traditional metal alloys for the realization of frameworks in full-arch implant-supported prostheses. The aim of the present in vitro study was to evaluate the deflection under load of seven prostheses endowed with frameworks made of different materials, including different types of fiber-reinforced composites (FRCs). A master cast with four implant analogues in correspondence with the two lateral incisors and the two first molars was used to create full-arch fixed prostheses with the same shape and different materials.

Objective: In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we critically evaluate available evidence regarding the association between primary headaches and subsequent decline of cognitive function and dementia.

Background: Recent studies suggested that headache disorders may increase the risk for dementia. However, available studies are conflicting.

The use of new prosthetic materials makes it necessary to establish adequate hygienic protocols. It was decided to make prosthetic crowns from four different materials: composite, lithium disilicate, metal ceramic, and zirconium, and to evaluate the effects on the surfaces of four different instruments through SEM and roughness analysis: manual steel curette, manual titanium curette, ultrasonic steel insert, and ultrasonic peek insert. Forty crowns were made, ten of each type of material.

Several techniques have been used to close oroantral communications, and they vary in their difficulty of execution and success. We present the "modified double-layered flap technique", which is similar to the treatment of labiopalatoschisis, has a high rate of success that is dependent on the skill of the surgeon, and will involve a steep learning curve.

Gnathodiaphyseal dysplasia (GDD) is a rare hereditary syndrome characterized by cemento-ossifying fibromas of the maxillary bones, fragile bones, curvature and cortical thinning of the tubular bones, and diaphyseal sclerosis of the long bones. In this study, 2 complex clinical cases of 2 members of the same family had GDD and were treated in the authors' odonto-stomatology department. The first was treated with a block bone graft and implant-prosthetic therapy; the other, who had extensive osteomyelitis of the second quadrant, was managed with extraction of the involved teeth, surgical revision of the site, and a graft of autologous platelet concentrate.

Previous studies have shown that cardiac microacceleration signals, recorded either cutaneously, or embedded into the tip of an endocardial pacing lead, provide meaningful information to characterize the cardiac mechanical function. This information may be useful to personalize and optimize the cardiac resynchronization therapy, delivered by a biventricular pacemaker, for patients suffering from chronic heart failure (HF). This paper focuses on the improvement of a previously proposed method for the estimation of the systole period from a signal acquired with a cardiac microaccelerometer (SonR sensor, Sorin CRM SAS, France).

Aims: Optimization of cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) requires the gathering of cardiac functional information. An accurate timing of the phases of the cardiac cycle is key in the optimization process.

Methods And Results: We compared Doppler echocardiography to an automated system, based on the recording of sonR (formerly endocardial acceleration), in the detection of mitral and aortic valves closures and measurements of the duration of systole and diastole.

Reference is made to the results of a chromosome analysis conducted on pleural liquid sediments in 71 cases of neoplastic effusion and 105 transudative and inflammatory cases. Numeric and morphological karyotype alterations conclusively indicative of the neoplastic origin of the effusion were observed in 79% cases where a tumour was actually present, and in none of the non-neoplastic cases. The diagnostic sensitivity of the examination was compared with that of the Pap-test, which gave positive results in 63% of cases.
