This paper proposes a GC-MS analytical method that can be used in forensic investigations, for comparative or provenance studies of soils with the aim to reconnect the evidence to their origin. The volatile, semi-volatile and volatilizable compounds present in soil samples of different sources have been extracted and qualitatively analyzed by GC-MS. The different fractions were extracted by ultrasonic assisted extraction (UAE), and the volatilizable compounds were derivatized by BSTFA-TMCS as silylating agent.

Material And Methods: Different essential oils of Myrcianthes fragrans (Sw.
Essential oils-obtained by hydrodistillation of different parts of Iris persica L. were investigated for the first time by GC-FID and GC-MS; moreover, their antifungal activities were determined: 34,. 32, 27, and 17 compounds were identified in the oils from air-dried flowers, leaves, rhizomes and fresh.

The structures of the compounds were elucidated on the basis of various spectroscopic means. In addition, a volatile fraction was separated the composition of which, comprising sesquiterpene hydrocarbons as the main fraction, was determined by GC-MS.

Dilute samples are passed through the bioreactor for generation of proteolytic fragments in less than 10 min. After digestion and peptide separation, electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry is used to generate a peptide map and to identify proteolytic peptides by correlating their fragmentation spectra with amino acid sequences from a protein database.
